If I try to edit the alpha channel in DXTbmp, it does not save the changes and reverts back to the old alpha channel on re-opening.

Did you refresh the Alpha channel after editing & before saving? Alpha/Refresh Alpha.

Yes I did.
It displays the alpha ok in the preview on the right, but seems to forget I made changes next time I open it.

Make sure you're saving it in the correct location & checking out the file you edited & saved - not the original texture.

IMO, this is a glitch (did I say: bug?) in the latest X version of DXTbmpx.

My DXTbmp installation always reopens with a BLACK alpha (this did not happen in previous version)

Therefore, I have an innocuous, plain-jane Alpha channel trans.bmp sitting in the readyroom for just such an event: I simply replace one alpha channel.bmp with the other. Smiple? You bet.

"If I try to edit the alpha channel in DXTbmp,"
How do does one edit an alpha channel in DXTbmp?

What is the latest version? I seem to have a sense of deja vu about this.*

Double-click on the image to send it to your graphics editor. The same as for the main texture.

PS. I just downloaded & installed the latest DXTBmp 4.00.83. It works fine for me.

I've just installed the latest version, but I still have the problem.

In the File/About/DLLs menu of DXTBmp it says that "mwacq.exe" and "mwtwack.dll" have not been found. Are these essential files.... maybe this is the problem?

The .dll package from MW Graphics' website doesent include these two, and I can't find them anywhere on the web.

Does anyone know of a freeware alternative to DXTBmp, or is it the only one?

Thanks for the help.

Just discovered that it won't save ANY changes - to the alpha OR the main texture.

BIG problem!

AFAIK DXTBmp is a standalone application. To uninstall it simply delete the DXTBmp folder from C:\Graphics.

This file should include all you need to install the program. http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm
I've used all versions of this utility since it was first released several years ago without a single problem.

I think I figured out your problem. Check the file properties of the textures you're working on. Make sure they're not Read only.
