Hi,

Just installed CFS3 on my Dad's PC.

Complains about outdated drivers and has no sound in flight.

PC is not that old - P3 800, 384Mb Ram, 16 Meg S3 Pro Savage Graphics o/b graphics, Via AC97 on board sound.

Sound in Windows and other games is fine.

I realise it isn't the best PC, but I think it is within the req of this game?

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Have you tried going to the webste of your motherboard's manufacturer and checking for updates to the Via chipset? That could be a longshot if its too outdated though.
My suggestion would be to get a *ahem* used soundcard that isn't too modern, like a soundblaster card form a couple years ago - its cheap, and may give you sound.
I have on-board sound as well, but the motherboard is very modern; I have gotten updates from the intel website for the sound chipset in the past, and so this is why I suggest searching for updates to your specific chipset. I hope this helped a bit Smiley

If you think your system is not too old, then you're a bit deluded - and NEVER believe the minimum specs given by a manufacturer.

Here are the minimum specs I would recommend for cfs3 :
- CPU 2Ghz
- 512 Mo ram
- a DX9 compliant card with 128Mo of memory.

Below that, it is doubtful you'll get any enjoyment out of cfs3.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Its my dad's PC - he's not a gamer hence the less than state of the art machine.

I've found some new drivers for the sound chipset and I'll try those.

Assuming that doesn't work, can any of you suggest a British aircraft WW2 Flight Sim that would work ok on this setup? Bearing in mind he has XP SP2, which I understand is not compatible with CFS1.

Thanks

With a proper graphics card you should be able to run CFS3 fine on that system. I ran it for years on a 700mhz Duron processor and you have far better than that. The graphics card doesn't have to be that new either. A geForce4 ti card is a couple of years old now, so is cheap, but is more than capable of running CFS3.

If not then CFS2 should run fine. EAW, as suggested is in my opinion top for realism and will work on old systems. And I've never heard of CFS1 not working on SP2.

Good luck.

Thanks again.

I like the look of European Air War, but when searching I found this entry which suggests it won't work on XP.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004UBQ9/qid=1138269168/sr=1-1/ref=sr...

Can anyone confirm this is the case?

it does work wth XP but you have to install the patch that comes with it. It also works with most older video cards.

I highly recommend this for those of us who like immersion. I"m going to to give you a warning. Its not the latest PC flying sim in the market. Its been out for more than 7 years, so do not expect the latest graphics or exact plane models. If you are into detail planes and sceneries than do not buy it. But if you are into mission immesion and historical mimicing  mission flying than this is your sim.

You can also upgrade it through the many upgrade offer by their dedicated communitty. It has many upgrade for it.

Like for example if you want to change Theater because you got tire of flying all the time in Europe. You can do that too. I"m telling you this is a great sim.

This does not mean you should  not buy any other Sim. You can fly in every Sim you like and in any Theater you desire. Its your choice.

I still recommend for you if you can to buy another PC with higher upgrades and install CFS2,CFS3 and perhaps Pacific Fighter/Forgotten Battles as well. They are all great Sims.

Do not get rid of your older PC as you may regret it. Its still useful to play those great older games.

Here is a site dedicated to European Air war that have created different theater of war for its sim:http://www.sandbaggereaw.com/home2.html

2.Here is another site that will help you find all the links to other website dedicated to this sim:http://www.sandbaggereaw.com/

I hope I have been helpful

You might try re-running

cfs3config.exe

In the CFS3 folder.
