I have an Emachine W2646(don't laugh) with an Intel Celeron 2.6gig cpu. The motherboard is a Imperial 845GV. I want to install an Athlon 64. Will this cpu work on this motherboard or, will I have swap it out for a new one?

I found that this board will take a P4. So, I may just do this instead. I'm sure I can't add a 64bit cpu to a 32bit board.

Well first off you need a AMD socket board to put an AMD processer in. Secondly what is your northbridge. Depending on this is wether or not you can put 64bit in. I have a 64bit enabled NBridge, but am only useing a 32bit processer. Also rember that you need a 478 P4 an LGA775 woulnt fit. So your basically limited to the Northwood series of cores.Which is colder than the Prescott's but also not 64bit (only the 5xx series)
