Alright well I am repainting the 737-700 from the 737 Experience available here using the supplied paint kit. I did my painting and saved it as a standard BMP, opened it in Dxtbmp, had Dxtbmp create an alpha layer, saved it into the texture folder as a DXT3, went to open it in FS2004, but when I try to load my scheme for the plane it stops the model rotating with the previously applied skin and stops there, not crashing FS2004 but not loading my skin either. Anyone know what's going on? All of the other files are saved as DXT3 so that doesn't seem to be the problem as best I can tell.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

DXT3 is not the problem In fact, it's the way to go with smaller filesizes by a factor of (at least) five (5).

Could you open the FUSG_T file in DXTbmp and post a screenshot? (Leaving the Alpha Channel intact, of course)

Here you go, it's wider than normal because my laptop is widescreen.

Still has a lot of work to be done, was trying to load it in FS to make sure all lines up so that I can weather it.

Okay what I would do, If I was in your positioin, I know well about repainting,.....

When I save my format I usually choose DX3
#1......save as DDS DXT3

For Alpha, you can and what I do is export my Alpha, go Alpha export alpha,.....then place the alpha in the repaint that you made.
#2  Alpha.....Export Apha Channel.....

#3 one reason that I've had a problem for your texture not showing up in FS is you prolly did not flatten you image (bitmap FS etc.) Go to flatten image in whatever paint program u use etc. Prolly useing layers, and sim was getting confused with that bitmap.

#4 to get rid of mips make sure to uncheck both boxe's found near the alpha preview. "Include when saving", "Use 16 bit Dither -and you would know what mips look like in sim and you wont like how it shows on ur repaint.

Then, after those fix's load sim, and ur repaints should show. specifically found on #3 for making ur repaint show properlly in FS. Wink

hope this helps, -SN Wink Grin

Grabbing at straws here, but are you replacing the original texture file on the same (original) aircraft, or is this a texture file for a completely new aircraft, and if so have you added the additional aircraft info in the aircraft.cfg file?

Sorry, don't know your level of experience so don't mean it to sound condescending.

Keni ???

Uh, if I understand correctly you are asking if I am modifying a scheme or making a brand new one? If so I am making a new one, I put all of the blanks in the paint kit in a new folder then copied files from another sceme into the folder that the paint kit didn't include Name_L files for example. If that's not what you meant then... I have no idea what you are asking.

Edit: Yes I have modified the cfg file, it shows up on the list but when i go to load it the scheme doesn't load and the aircraft model stops rotating.

What's the DDS DXT3 for? It saves as a .dds file instead of a bmp type? Sorry if this is a stupid question, this is my first attempt at a repaint.

The textures wouldn't usually cause this problem. The model should display even with no textures at all.  I suggest you check your new Aircraft.cfg [fltsim.x] entry carefully.

PS.
The title= entry must be different to all other variations of the aircraft.
The sim= entry must be the same as the other variations.
The texture= entry points to your new Texture folder.

Thought so. The sim= line points to the AIR file in use.
