well, the thread got locked but the ahole said that what happened was on the main site, a popup came up, and when he left and went to netwings, there was an error that tied to simv.

I dont know what his problem was, but he said to boycott simv, that the guys running it were 'scum' and that no one should go to simv.

Its people like this that ruin the fs community. Undecided Undecided Undecided

yeah, but I just realized that this is starting to get serious.  Many people at the outhouse are boycotting us, one designer (who I will NEVER get a file from) refuses to upload or allow his files to be uploaded here.

I really dont want simv to become fsplanet, the only site that is boycotted.  I would hate to see that because of one popup ad the site gradually declines until all thats left are some of us who really enjoy the site.

So unless these people stop being jerks, Im about to boycott sim-outhouse

Jake a lot of the people who have been banned from SimV have wound up over at Outhouse. Best to just ignore people who are this stupid. They quickly get themselves banned from pretty much everywhere because of their attitude.
Don't sweat the small stuff, Pete has had far worse from people far more powerful and something like this doesn't even make the scope.
The fact it has been locked suggests the mods over at the Outhouse are well on top of the issue Wink

Looking at the description of the problem this prat hasN'T ......... He's been trying to access the Premium part of the site and been asked for a password etc........ the reason he gets the popup for SimV/menu.htm is because, as I've noticed when I make a typo in my password or clicked on a link from within the forums without being logged into the premium site, the dialog box continues to appear several times unless the window is closed.

I'm not sure what he is on about (I didn't read the thread - I can do without being pee'd off this AM.. Wink ) - maybe he has a virus.  The good folk @ sim-outhouse know simviation well enough to know we would never deliberately put out invasive ads.  Roll Eyes

Wonder if this is the guy:
Quote:
Dear sir(s) and/or morally depraved scum,

I strongly suggest that you change your "popup" advertisement tactics.

I've been visiting your site on a daily basis since '98, but that is most probably going to end, effective NOW!

A popup that occurs on the page that caused it is almost acceptable to me, but your latest tactics are morally depraved...a popup ad that occurs 2 to 3 clicks AFTER your visitor has left your site, leaving the recipient of the ad to believe it was caused by another, innocent site!

Do NOT try to deny this...when I receive a script error from simviation.com/menu.html 3 clicks AFTER I have left your site, you have SIGNED your work!

I have notified some of my fellow flightsimmers to this situation, and advised them to either avoid your site, or if they absolutely HAVE to visit, to CLOSE their browser windows after they leave!

Jeffrey Delhaye

Meanwhile I am checking our pop under - which is limited to one page only - the non member 'menu.html' page & should never be invasive in any way.

Meanwhile I am trawling through about 300 possible ads on our agency page to see if I can trace which ad is causing a problem. It is almost impossible to know - & some ads are farmed out to 3rd & 5th party agencies. I have disabled about 10 which could possibly be a problem.

MEANWHILE: we can be sure a LOT of people will have complained about this to our agency as they serve about 500,000 sites & any invasive ad is soon removed.

There is one add (on the free site) that will pop up.  I have pop up blocker, and this one gets through, and I think thats what hes talking about.  But one thing thats kinda dumb is I did what he said he did, went here then netwings, left the pop up up, and went to netwings.  And guess what: NO problems.

Also, he said that he ran all the checks, nothing.  Which means that this was just a stupid complaint of a pop up, because there was no spyware, no viruses, no nothing!

He has a slow browser. I had this problem in the past, the ad didn't pop-up immediately at a site, but a short time later it appeared where it shouldn't. Sounds like this guy needs to clear out his cache. And take some time to chill out.

Oh what a crazy dork. Shocked As if Pete could be perfect anyway! Roll Eyes

One kind email to notify the problem would be a much better idea. I don't believe for a second what he says. If he has been comming here since 1998 he'll keep comming and if he hasn't he is probably just come here to criticise back at the outhouse. I never visit there - happy here. 8)

A) The one that complaints exagerates big time and isn't exactly subtle

B) Please people, if you feel inclined to react on bad Simv-publicity on other site, let's do it Simv-style... mature, well thought trough and above all, stay polite... no need starting flamewars and making a name for Simviation!

C) Respect to the SOH-moderator who saw things going the wrong way and acted swiftly!

D) I rest my case...

Keep up the good work Pete, we appreciate it!  Wink

If this guy was banned from SimV long ago, then obviously he is just jelious and wants revenge simply because he was banned.

The mere fact he never recieved any viruses or spyware, etc. clearly tells me that he is simply using the dumb little pop-up [which never bothered me anyways] as a dumb excuse to just flame us. I don't get this guy.

I don't get this guy. Why complain about a dumb litte pop-up that never even gives you viruses nor spyware?

This guy is probably taking anti-psycotics. Roll Eyes

Steady Ashar, steady man! Shocked No need to speak like that at all. Please edit that.
Quite wrong to speak about fellow simmers and brand them all with such language too at the SO.
