Last set from the Heathrow - RAF Ismailia trip....

Late afternoon, leaving Athens...

...

It was late '54 when my Grandad went out to what was then RAF Ismailia, and things were really hotting up in the Suez region so he must have been feeling pretty nervous, more than he had since his time in N. Africa during WW2....

...

He describes how he was out with an Army Co-operation as the only Senior RAF guy, showed them what to do with Auster aircraft, ran the open air Station Cinema

...

He remembers 'Seven Brides For Seven Brothers' as being particularly popular...maybe Fozzer has fond memories of that one too? Wink

...

Crossing the Med was uneventful, and after a while the coastline of Egypt hove into sight....

...

He remembers when they had to say goodbye and get all their aircraft out, including Electras, Ansons and Prentices...

...

Two of the Prentices (whatever they were) were not airworthy so he was told to tow them over to the edge of the airfield and put a match to them.....

...

Thus ended his stint at RAF Ismailia, now Al'Isma'iliya...with a bonfire....
He left on a Valetta (maybe) for Aden.

And thus also ends this flight, over Suez....in FS9 it is 1954 and my young Grandad is fastening his seatbelt for landing, and wondering what will awaits him as he takes up his latest overseas post..... Smiley

...

Thanks for having a look, I hope you liked them!

Regards

Krigl

1 hour of downloading and installing Africa/Egypt/Suez scenery.

3 hour flight, including one hour of snapping.

Half an hour of choosing, resizing.

Half an hour of uploading, writing.

I did enjoy my flight though, which I guess is the main thing, but still...it does kind of defeat the object of posting here, eg. communication.

You could post something, even if it's only 'Nice shots Wink' it doesn't have to be 10 lines of ego-building praise...

Sorry to whinge, I know it's a matter of taste, other sets have got lots of replies, its not what simming's about etc... but... you know what I mean. I'm not the first to whine about this either... Smiley

Ok, I won't do it again. Grin

Thanks guys...guess I'll try harder next time Wink Cheesy

Cheers

Cheesy lol

True, now all comments, if any more should appear, will seem as if I've forced them out of people... Cry

One can never win Wink

I'll tell you what, if anyone comments I simply won't assume they are forced, how's that?  Grin

Comments welcome, come on, feed my shrivelled ego....

Great shots! As the rest of the series, what I like about it, is all the info about your grandad and stuff. Great series! Wink

Anyway you can send the 3rd one from the bottom to my e-mail full size so I can use it as a desktop image.
