Okay, mine is up. Of course, the rules leave some artistic freedom, but this is my interpretation.

Just popped into this forum which I rarely do and I'm amazed by the comments down here.

Now I'm proud of my screenshots and I don't happen to believe that my skills are any better or worse than anyone else's round here.

However, I happen to think that any dummy can capture a full screen image but few on the evidence I've seen anyway can combine the eye for a shot with the cropping skills that can make that image into something more, a picture worth keeping.

And I would resent anyone telling me that my results are the worse for cropping when I choose to do it.

I have to say that I've lost a lot of interest in the screenie contests since this 'rule' came in and I've noticed a lot more images appearing now with tips of wings and such cut off, I believe as a result of it.

BTW - everyone has the right to express an opinion about anything - but beware anyone who tries to pretend they're the final arbiter on matters artistic and of taste.

I believe the quality of the content is important only to a certain extent, but beyond that, composition is what counts. I have seen many many crystal clear shots that came off of amazing computers, but dubbed them all ''worthless'' because it looks as if a 3 year old composed them... Roll Eyes

I don't blame people for cropping. I personally believe it is unique, a breakaway from the norm (800x600). In addittion, I know how hard it is to intergrate some of the photograpic techniques into screenshots without a payware camera program, and cropping is one easy way to accomplish that.

Now, before you start gibber jabbing about me...

...1. I believe I have only cropped once during my stay here at SimV, but I have seen many fine examples of how much of a positive difference cropping can make to a shot...

...2. Believe it or not, my computer is NOT configured for Flight Simulator, and I can't claim that I can "handle my computer" when it comes to flight sim...

All and all, I don't think that cropping is used to take out the bad parts of a shot; but rather, to enhance the compositon and create more intreast Smiley

Ok you're all correct cropping is great and represents the highest level of artistic achievment.

Compression is what makes screenshots oversized and ugly.

I'm sorry for insulting Krigl

I'm sorry for even challenging something I know nothing about.

Heretic is the winner.

I apologize for any attempt I made dictating taste or anything else

I apologize for anyone who was hurt by my completely unbased opinions

Thank you for the lessons I have learned.

Not so fast. In terms of quality, your shots are more than excellent and unbeaten. Maybe you have a better rig than me or you have different priorities than me and I don't know how much time of the day you spend with FS.

Did you use Walk & Follow or Active Camera for your shots?

What a most extraordinary thread. I must confess that I'm totally bemused by the whole thing. How people can get so worked up over something so trivial I do not know - and what has it got to do with payware screenshots anyway.......  ???

There are no set rules for how you create your picture - it's the end result that's important. Who cares if it's been cropped or not for goodness sake. It has absolutely nothing to do with how you have set up your sim or anything else. This is supposed to be a fun hobby - there are no 'rules' for how you do anything.

If someone wants to go and spend a load of dosh to get an 'expert' to set up their system just to run a trivial computer program - OK, that's fine by me. I wouldn't - but I have to smile when I'm then being told that apparently because I haven't and ....... wait for it.....heavens above, because I've cropped them.......any screen shots I might shoot are also pretty much worthless  Smiley

Excuse me now please while I go off into a public spat and throw all my toys out of the pram  Grin

Ohhhhhh  boooooooyyyyy......  Roll Eyes

.... let's go with it eh? Thanks Pete.

As you say in your sig, the world isn't black and white.

Just heard that over 30 people have today been killed by suicide bombers in Iraq and many many more have been injured. Now that's something to get worked up and emotional over..   Sad

I wanted to move this as I think it is heading the wrong way.
Heretic loves to push buttons and Roller is not helping.
Better to just "sweep it under the rug".

Thanks
