Greetings.

I like to take screenshots of air-to-air combat. To get best lighting effects on the plane I'm piloting, I switch to external view (toggling F4), then press 'L' twice (sometimes once will do). Suddenly, your plane is beautifully illuminated by the 'sun'. However, your wingmen are not; neither are enemy flyers.

What do I do to shed light on all other aircraft in the sim?

What's responsible for the following: I'm in 'Campaign' starting in my Wildcat from a USN carrier. The second the mission commences, there's sunlight on the carrier. A second later - it's gone. Why? Can you bring it back? Does no one know the secret of toggling illumination of objects in CFS2?

I have no idea what you're talking about... I made a mission to escort TBF's at about 7:30 and pressed L twice... the only thing that happened was the VC light turned on, then off.

OK... press F4 to get external view... Default is unilluminated aircraft. Press 'L' twice (sometimes once is enough- don't ask me why!) and the aircraft is beautifully illuminated by sunlight. Pressing 'L' in cockpit view indeed only toggles interior lighting (and landing lights in some cases)

Thanks I learn some thing new. I have had this program for over five years and I did not know this. We can always learn from each other.

Thanks you for the tip.

I"ll try it later.

My aircraft shine OK - my question relates to other [AI] aircraft in the sim as well as objects (carriers, buildings etc). I know the program can do it - but how?

Same thing here Stiz,

When I press 'L' in Spot View\External View the only thing that happens is the VC light in the aircraft turns on.

I'm still no wiser. There's some code in the program that controls the external lighting effect.

Try this: Fly any mission for the US that starts on a carrier. The instant the mission begins, the flight deck is bathed in sunlight; three or four seconds later, it's dark (like a huge cloud has suddenly covered the sun).

Something must be responsible for that. Find that line of code, and maybe we'll be able to illuminate other aircraft and objects in the same way that we can illuminate our piloted aircraft in external view (pressing
L twice)...
