"Bohemian Rhapsody" is their only good song.

The rest of their music is entirely destroyed by Mercury's annoying higly mpitched hissing "s".

Are you insane?  ???

In terms of Rock Freddy Mercury did not have a high pitched voice. In fact throughout the 80's the drummer sang most of the high parts, have you heard classics like Don't Stop Me Now, Tie Your Mother Down and Tear It Up? Those songs are classic macho rock songs.

I'm a fan of all Queen's work even some of their more poppy later efforts. Freddy was the ultimate showman and on stage was no more camp than Robert Plant ever was lol. Offstage was a different matter however lol.

I saw Queen + Paul Rodgers in July and I think it was tastefully done in that they did not try to replace Freddy. Oh and Fat Bottomed girls was really good when done by Paul.

The Drummer (Roger Taylor) went to the same secondary school as me. Legend has it that the careers master back then told him that he'd better get studying for a proper job because he would never make any money out of drumming.

He might have been a homosexual - but that makes no difference. He was one of the best singers out there.

I like all of them, but Don't Stop Me Now, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hammer To Fall and I Want To Break Free are my favourite Queen songs.

*STUPID QUESTION TIME*
Who came first? Queen or the Bee Gees? They were brilliant themselves (for someone my age I certainly have a different taste in music to all the other people my age)

The Bee Gees.  They've been preforming since the early 1960's. Grin

I liked Queen from the moment I heard their first record. They were refreshingly different & obviously very talented. Not so keen on the camp presentation & I would rather listen to them than watch but that's a matter of preference. Freddie Mercury was not only a talented performer, he was also a brilliant pianist & songwriter.

I was never so keen on the Bee Gees although they had many hit records over a long period of time. They apparently released several records in Australia before coming back to Britain to try their luck. (The three brothers were born on the Isle of Man. The Gibb family then moved to Manchester before emigrating to Australia in 1958 soon after Andy was born.) Robert Stigwood (an associate of Beatles manager Brian Epstein) gave them a 5 year contract on the same day they auditioned for him. Their first hit in the UK & US was "New York Mining Disaster 1941" in 1967 which was a pretty conventional pop song for the time. http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Bee-Gees/New-York-Mining-Disaster-1941.html
They didn't adopt their well-known falsetto disco style until some time later. Discos hadn't been invented in 1967.

While I remember all this I have to admit looking up the dates as I was never that interested in them. http://www.classicbands.com/beegees.html

Bizarrely enough, some of my favourite Queen songs are those written/sung by Brian May or those written by the bass player John Deacon...
