Well 42 years ago today he was killed! So which conspiracy theory do you think is most likely the correct one?

I watched a programme last night on the telly which went about disprooving the conspracy theorys by disprooving the film JFK by Oliver Stone who openly admitted to taking dramatic licience. For some reason I was less than convinced. Tongue

This is one of the few events that will always stick in my mind. I can remember exactly where I was when I first heard the news & how shocked I was to hear it. Although this happened many thousands of miles away I was terribly upset about it & I'm not even an American.

I don't know what to believe but I'm pretty certain we were never told the full truth & the whole thing was hushed up for whatever reason. I doubt we will ever find out what really happened on that sad day in history.

conspiracy theory ...
well, i think there was a conspiracy to make it look like a conspiracy so copycats would be discouraged.

In November 1993 I read most of Gerald Posner's 'Case Closed'.  I was pretty of much a one-gunman opinion before that, but that book, and also a PBS 'Nova' special (I do not remember the specific name) about the assasination completely wrapped it up.  Both 'Case Closed' and Nova premises the one-gunman theory and takes you through the eyes of Oswald; the Nova show did not make a specific conclusion that there was one gunman, but conducted controlled experiments to prove that one gunman could have pulled it off, that is, all 4 (4 I think) shots could have been fired by one person in the time specified and could have all come from one direction.  Posner is more definite and maintains 'one gunman' throughout his book.  Incidentally, Posner also maintains that Oswald was not stalking Kennedy, but came up with the idea only 4 days before when he realized that the motorcade would pass beneath the book depository building window that he had complete access to.  Whereas there are to this day still hazy circumstances surrounding this tragic event, unless some conspirator-theorist can come up with decent evidence, the one-gunman theory is the most plausible, if not absolutely evidenced.  As Posner put it, this terrible event was so big that it seemed hard to believe that only one person could have pulled it off.  But (in my opinion) had there been more than one gunman, we would certainly have figured that out with more positiveness.

Truth is often stranger than fiction but viewed from a distance while it was all happening the whole thing seemed very bizarre. Everything conveniently cut & dried & the prime suspect permanently silenced while under police guard by a somewhat dubious character whose own motives for doing so were never fully explained. What happened to Jack Ruby anyway? It had such an effect on me that I can remember his name after all these years without looking it up. As the events unfolded on our TV screens it was like watching some bizarre soap opera. It's possible that Lee Harvey Oswald did fire the shots that killed the President but we shall never know for certain any more than his motives for doing it or if he was working under contract for person or persons unknown.

All rather too convenient if you ask me but I doubt the truth will ever be told. This was a long time ago & is almost ancient history. All we're left with is the official story & all those conspiracy theories.

Aye. I'm surprised they didn't keep the case opened longer. Call in CSI!

That's exactly the same with the 9/11 attacks for me. Tends to be the most shocking things that always stick with you.

I think the Russians did much the same thing to Kennedy as they did with the late John Paul II, if any of you have read Red Rabbit by Tom Clancy.
