Is it just me or did anyone else find tonight’s episode of Family Guy [called 'One If By Clam, Two If By Sea'] on BBC2, mildly offensive.

If Seth MacFarlane intends to sell his show in the UK he may need to re-think his choice of subject matter.
Some of the comments in tonight’s show were run 'close to the bone' and very stereotypical. I'm a fan of Family Guy, but speaking as a Brit, the comments in tonight’s show [slagging off Brits] were just too offensive and have put me off slightly...
A joke is a joke, but when you run it for an entire episode it becomes unpleasant  Roll Eyes Tongue

You say that, but its an ancient tactic to cover up an insult with the phrase "I was only having a laugh, it was just a joke."

Okay, so you feel insulted by my post and by that episode of Family Guy. I kind of know what your problem is: Lack of humour.

National pride and satirical cartoon series don't mix.

Might be either because of my good sense of humor or because I haven't seen any of them. *Cough* Grin

Man that's what Family Guy sets out to do.

It's taken the mick out of everything I can think of at some point. I think it's the funniest cartoon I've seen for a long while.

I've never watched this Family Guy which is not surprising as I rarely watch any TV these days. It might be hilarious for all I know. I find a lot of modern humour offensive which might be due to my age more than anything else. I prefer a little subtlety rather than 'in your face' . Not that I mind anyone taking the mickey out of me or my country & there's plenty to choose from there. I imagine that many Americans would be offended by 2DTV which I thought was one of the funniest things I've seen on TV for years. Cheesy

You have to be careful who you pick on as Baron Cohen (Ali G) might find out to his cost. See Jimbo's topic here. http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=gen;action=display;num=113...
Can't say I ever cared for that idiot myself & I'm surprised someone hasn't punched him on the nose before now. I reckon he'll have to watch out or somone might give him more than a punch.

Indeed. Most of the playground jokers at school were much better at it than the so-called comedians I'm talking about. It's playground humour & that's where it belongs, not on national TV. IMHO Wink

It's not that bad, it's more intelligent than first impressions let on.

They hit very hard sometimes, but everybody gets their turn... keep watching and you'll probably find yourself guffawing when they deliver a crotch-kick to some group other than you own...
Wink  Cheesy

And remember; it's not intended as a primer on what to believe or how to behave; it's just vicious satire.

There was plenty more 'offensive' humour around back in the 60's and 70's, when politcal correctness didn't dominate ... everything? Tongue

But Family Guy has plenty of 'non-mickey taking' jokes. I like things such as:

"They hired me because of my ability to say all 50 states in a quarter of a second....AGH..."
"That wasn't the 50 states, that was just a loud yelp..."

I wasn't talking about Family Guy as I've never seen it so can't comment. If it's satirical humour I would probably enjoy it as most of it is very cleverly done. Some of you obviously haven't seen what passes for comedy on British TV these days. Some of these so-called comedians have very little talent & rely on foul language & filth to get cheap laughs from the typical ignorant audience that seems to like this sort of thing. This is one of the reasons I rarely watch TV these days. I don't want  that sort of thing in my own home. It's all very well to say switch it off if you don't like it but then there's not much point in having a TV set. I'm no prude & can be vulgar myself if the mood takes me & could probably shock some people quite easily. If this is what they call comedy I've seen much better in the school playground when I was at school & on the shop floor at work.
