Hey Everyone

I was wondering if anyone knows how to add an afterburner to a jet aircraft?  I dont mean the visual effects, I already know how to do that, but I mean the actual afterburner that will increase your speed and fuel consumption when turned on.

Thanks,
Chris

Although I haven't done an afterburner - Looking at the aircraft.cfg files of a couple of jets with & without afterburner I notice this difference:

[TurbineEngineData]

fuel_flow_gain= 0.02
inlet_area= 4.00            //12.000
rated_N2_rpm= 9000.000
static_thrust= 14500   //   poussée sec  PC 21300 ratio 1.46
afterburner_available= 1
reverser_available= 0.000

The 2 without had afterburner_available= 0

Those with afterburner also had this entry in the cfg file :

[jet_engine]
thrust_scalar =1.0

Not sure whether these entries alone would do it but it would certainly be worth trying Smiley

I have tried the afterburner_available= 1  trick  and also the .air file afterburner with no success what-so-ever.

The thrust scalar dosnt seem to have any effect on the afterburner either.

Hmm.. if you are refering to actually seeing the effect of an afterburner on an aircraft, then obviously it might have something to do with the [EFFECTS] section of the Aircraft.cfg file. You will have to link a certain Effect file to the aircraft via the *.cfg file. I don't know at all which of the files to link though.

The EFFECTS files are located in the Effects folder of FS2004. Beyond that, I have no clue.

PS: What the others have told you might have worked, probably only to enable the addon's ability to use the effects files.
