Actually, Oct 14 was another of those busy days:
Willy, that SOB, and Harry fought it out, and Vickers named a transport plane after the arena;
Chuck left his voice behind so he couldn't hear himself speak....
Niki got the boot, a year to the day after he and John almost came to a big blow up over big cigars,
and that sly fox of the sands got told to either do himself in or get done in and have his name/family dragged through the mud ....

It's simple. First point, Battle of Hastings, 1066. William (not yet the conquerer) VS. King Harold. Vickers had an aircraft called the Hastings.
Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier.
Nikita Khruschev, Russian Premier disposed of after cuban missile crisis.
And Erwin Rommel forced to commit suicide after being linked with a plot to assassinate Hitler.
Easy.

I picked up on the Battle of Hastings (we've recently had other posts) and Rommel ordeals. I suppose, if I weren't so lazy, I could have done a 'calendar event' search and figured out the others. Unlike
Woodlouse
, I unfortunately can't claim to be a genius but, in respect to my previous sentence, it helps to know as much as I can so that I don't have to go searching

I would just like to point out that I had nothing whatsoever to do with any of this so don't blame me. I get the blame for quite enough already, thank you.

That was my initial thought. But then I remembered Felix wouldn't post anything that would obtain the front page of the Daily Mail.

Nope. In 1066 they may have been wearing their mail, though

Wonder of they got it by mail order? Large discount for bulk purchases. Extra discount for Daily Mail readers when ordered on the special chain letter application form (Enc.).

It was definitely a bulk item. Chain mail must have come in very large envelopes back then -- if you had to pay the postage on it these days, you'd about lose your shirt!
