Very nice. I can't be sure but it looks like the one Charlie mentioned.

This flight was in 2003.
The article that goes with the picture was quite fascinating in that the team that put it together didn't have a hell of a lot to fall back on with the initial flights.....it was all a bit of a mystery.
Anyway, it all adds to the rich tapestry of life ... ( as the man once said...).

It is indeed (the first shot is at Duxford). Lovely aeroplane. Aeroplane Heaven do quite a nice one for FS9...

I understood it was Ray Hanna's favourite aeroplane. I read an article where he said it performed better than a Sea Fury, unless I'm getting confused. I'll try & find the article.

He did indeed. The article's in a relatively recent Aeroplane. If I find it i'll let you know (or vice-versa!)

This is the plane associated with Ray Hanna.
Fuselage restoration got under way in 2001 at Pioneer Aero Restorations in New Zealand. At that stage it was considered that no-one had flown this type in 50 years and hence there were big gaps in available operating data. An overhauled engine was obtained from the Czech Republic in late 2002 and work started in earnest. It first flew, in New Zealand, in February 2003.
Engine and cowling show Hawker Fury similarities, an oil cooler under the fuselage is in P51 style, and the wing is similar in plan form to the P51 with a similar laminar flow symmetrical section.
The pictures accompanying the article are all described as over-flying New Zealand, except the one suggested at Duxford - I doubt that this is the case, however...

Very un-up to date OFMC website (the Ryan listed is now at Old Warden!)... Since then the aircraft's spent a lot of time in the UK and last time I heard was for sale...
Ahaaaa....

The Lavochkin had to return to New Zealand as it was only allowed to fly in the UK for 2003 on a temporary exemption issued by the UK Civil Aviation Authority.

Didnt Mark Hanna die in a fly in a couple of years back ?
And they are sweet photos, really good work!

Indeed. Mark Hanna was killed landing OFMC's Buchon at Sabbadell in Spain in September 1999. Ray Hanna continues to operate the OFMC, although the collection seems to be dispersing between the UK and NZ...

I love Lavochkins. Hopefully someone will make a freeware one. I know Aeroplane Heaven has one.

A little off track, but in IL2FB, the LA7's are the business. They outperform everything else in almost all respects. (no match for my diving TA-152 though hehehe)
The design philosophy behind them seems to be "small is better".
I did't even know there was a LA9 produced.
Oh, and Bazza, you're gonna have to unfold your arms if you wanna fly that Janus
Is that the glider used to make that movie flying over the Southern Alps to Milford Sound?

It's facts like this that young Americans of my era were never taught, I mean, that was recent history when I was a kid, we only knew that our Sabres were shooting the heck out of Migs at the time.
I know there were capable American prop planes serving in Korea, anyone know if there was any dogfighting with LA9's and the US props?
