Ok..
I've been able to master gMax to a pretty good extent in the basics of building objects, texturing them, and exporting them to Flight Simulator.
As it stands, I am nearly complete with Sanderson Field itself in terms of the gMax overhaul, but I am running into issues with framerates.
Most of by objects in gMax that I've built are pretty simple. Most of them are simple boxes or cylinder shapes that have been modified to represent hangars, warehouses, and objects such as Precision Approach Path Indicators, segmented circles, and runway lighting fixtures. They have very low poly counts, but my framerates drop to a slideshow whever I get near Sanderson. This is frustrating because I'm not only revamping Sanderson Field, but I am also including several Shelton landmarks in the package as well. The Shelton High School campus (which is right under the approach path of runway 23), Shelton Middle School, Mason General Hospital, and the Shelton WalMart are just a few of the landmarks I plan on adding.
With all of these landmarks I an planning on including, I fear that the framerates will drop so much it'll make the package unusable. I'm not familiar with LOD settings and I don't want to detract from the superb quality and appearance Sanderson Field now has under this revamp.
If anyone knows where I could improve the scenery yet still leave the building shapes alone (for the most part), I would greatly appreciate it.
I am also using high-resolution 1024x1024 texture maps set to a DXT1 format. (high resolution allows for details that bimaps at smaller scales doesn't allow for)
