Well thirty years ago today the first ever episode of Fawlty Towers was broadcast on BBC TV.
And it is still funny, think I might watch a couple of episodes this evening
There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

That seems a very long time ago.
Possibly more surprising is the fact that only 12 episodes were ever made.

Don't know about other parts of the U.S., but here in Miami Florida, PBS station WPBT Ch2 has broadcast Fawlty Towers many times over the past several decades, and is even running the series again this past few weeks. Even having seen it so many times, it's still good for laughs. Over the years we had the pleasure of seeing many different 'Britcoms', as Ch2 refers to them, and I must personally say that, with a few exceptions, all, esp. Fawlty Towers, are greatly refreshing. Unfortunately, possibly due to funding cutbacks and changing public supported tastes, there have not been any new shows presented in some time.

That might be because they don't make shows like that any more. Very rarely anyway.

Something that is costing the BBC their viewership and the UK its heritage of real comedy actors. They seem to think these soaps will bring in the numbers. Personally I would be more interested in watch re-runs of the classic comedies like Fawlty towers. I believe the last of the truely great British comedies was One foot in the grave. They have a full day of one comedy on one of the cable stations here. Last saturday it happend to be Dads army. Havent laughed so long in ages.

Fawlty Towers
and
Are You Being Served
caught my attention on PBS even if it was quite sometime after their original release. Surely difficult to believe: there were only 12 episodes of
Fawlty Towers
?

I seem to remember that was a decision by John Cleese. Something about quitting while he was ahead & not overdoing it. Others could take note of his example.

Like Doug said after the second series he felt that anything else wouldn't be as good. Also I think his marriage to Connie Booth was breaking up at that point....
