Hi,
I installed some new CFS2 ships recently (new to ship intallation), put the stuff in the SHIPS folder and updated the mdlnames file. However, when i go to mission builder and select the ship, it gives me an error that it cant find mdl object in library. Anyone encountered the problem? Help pls. thx.

First, double-check to make sure you installed everything correctly. Open the individual ship folders to make sure they have Panel & Sound subfolders. These can be empty but must be there for the ships to work. If they're missing you can copy/paste them from a default ship.

Yup, its empty but its there. I didnt mess around with the files in the ship folder. I copied everything wholesale from the zip files.

Huh! problem solved. It seems like the name of the folder of the ship must be the same as the mdl (or dp) file. This does not apply to aircraft right, I hope it doesn't.

That might explain it. Well done for figuring it out. The MDL & AIR file prefix don't usually matter with aircraft for normal purposes but might be more important if used with the MB or as AI aircraft. This could also explain why some 3rd party aircraft don't display properly when used as AI in missions or QC.

Ooo... did i jus figured out smthg new? Well, so i suppose to be on the safe side, i will be better off leaving those folder's name same as the air files, is it? I've been building missions for quite a while, but this is the first time im getting 3rd party stuff for mission building.

There's not much in this game that people haven't discovered before. Don't remember the details but I seem to recall this cropping up some time ago when people were having problems with certain 3rd party aircraft in missions. To avoid potential bugs it might be best if the MDL, DP & AIR file have the same file prefix as the folder name.
