Still under guarenttee so back it went, but boy, I did no overclocking and it was only put in once (new out the box) 7 months ago. Roll Eyes Anyway, a nice new free replacement and it is slightly better. So I have in theory got an extra warranty. 8)

The man said that unless we wanted to go over £100 to stick with this one as he said it was a good card. (We could have paid a bit more and got a better one you see on the exchange). I think it had been that way for ages, you know. I hadn't looked at the engine thingy which is full of dials (tells you how well the card is etc) for months. I have no idea how long it went on for with no fan. Shocked
Good job it didn't toast. Roll Eyes

My video card took a dump about two weeks after it went in. I noticed first bad video, then no video-- I mean black, blank screen and a little marquee in my monitor that said the monitor was OK, please to check my PC and connections. Well, it goes back to Best Buy for warranty replacement and we find that about .02 inches of gold on one of the very last pins has been scraped off or somehow removed from the pin and that was the problem. I had to look very closely from a very close distance to even see it. But my computer saw it. No video problems since then.

Maybe we should all open our boxes every so often and look inside. Dust and fuzzballs can collect, cause heat-related damage and before you know it, out comes the wallet...

Well, that depends on what you had before?

The 9600XT's were slightly better than the old geforce4 TI4200's.

Good idea sending it back. Besides extending (theoretically at least) your warranty, you are in effect sending feedback to the manufacturer that they need to supply more reliable cooling solutions.
