Hiya guys,

Ive never done Online flying but i was just wondering. How would you become an Air traffic controller for anypart of online flying? Would you have needed to have some connection to real ATC or will any sites be willing to train new controllers? I just thought about it because it is a career I am seriously considering.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance

A lot of online air traffic communities out there will be willing to train someone who is unexperienced but committed to ATC.  However, a lot of the standards are very high, and most of these places only choose people who are of certain age (above 18 at the least), and preference in training is given to those who have some real world experience (either as ATC or as a pilot).

I'm currently a student controller on eskyworld.com, its one place that is willing to train people, however, they have a long waiting list, and again, they do have very high standards.  Like you though, its a career im seriously pursueing as well, and I think it will be a good experience if you can get in.

Cheers,
RB

born_2_fly, when you sign up over at IVAO there is a link on the site where you can request training. Also all the software you need you can download once you register with IVAO. They have their own pilot client, so they dont use squawbox anymore, and they also have their own ATC client. But like I said you can download all the things you need to get started once you register. You didnt state whether you wanted to do ATC in the US or not, but if that is your intentions then there are some wonderful trainers for the US division. Grin
