It seemed he lost momentum in the loop and sort of backflipped over the top. I would be pretty surprised if he was meant to do it.

Definately not. Doesn't sound too pleasant...

P.S. Can someone tell me why the hawk practically did a tail-slide at Shoreham? I bet someone's gonna get a slap on the wrist for that one

Hmmm. I was at Shoreham all day & didn't notice anything unusal. Mind you, I wasn't paying much attention during the Hawk's display. I'd already seen it at Shoreham on Friday & Biggin yesterday.

Well afterwards he veered of to the right of the display line and faffed around before getting back into the display.
Very wierd indeed.

He'd be very lucky not to receive a Caterpillar club membership if he managed to do that. Jets don't work backwards...
What about the Sukhoi su27 or the Mig? they can tail slide and there jets.

Some years ago I saw the Frecce Tricolore singleton do a tailslide in an MB339. This would have been at Greenham Common or Mildenhall in the early 1980s.* First time I'd ever seen it done in a jet.
*PS. Greenham 1983. Just look at that flightline.
