Depends on the seats i think.. but im pretty sure its normally the back seat that ejects first followed by the front after a very small time..

Hi
Yep back seat first then the front, reason for that is the front seat is protected from the seat blast by the back of his seat,Otherwise the rear seater would get a face full
cheers

The command eject in the Tucano fires the rear seat first followed by the front seat 1.4 seconds later.
If the aircraft is flown solo, the rear seat does not leave the aircraft.
The canopy frame also stays attached to the aircraft - the seats fire through the canopy glass which is shattered by the detonating chord in the canopy.

The "knives" are there to break through the shattered canopy (and to poke out the pilot's eye whilst checking the seat before flight!). The rear cockpit glazing should just break up in the airflow when it shatters, but the front cockpit is more complex...
In the front cockpit there is a ring of detonating chord around the rear of the glazing but the glass is thicker at the very front. A strip of chord also extends forward over the front seat pilot's head. When the handle is pulled this chord fires, effectively breaking the canopy into 3 sections; a "windscreen" formed by the front of the front seat canopy (this remains attached to the aircraft to provide windblast protection), and the rear section, which is cut in two by the chord above the pilots head. When the seat leaves the aircraft, the "knives" push these two halves out of the way...

Aye, but by the time you do your seat checks they've been removed by the groundcrew!
Interestingly I did a little bit of research into the Embraer Tucano (rather than the Shorts) and the canopy appears to be one piece. It appears to have MDC around the edge but not over the top, so I imagine the whole thing shatters...
