Hi yall Smiley

I'm having a probelm with FS9. When I swich views cockpit to Vcockpit the screen go black, and FS9 stops responding. I thank this has to do with the graphics card, but I'm not sher

Batman,

Go to the "Tom's Hardware" website and look at the bar charts of graphic card comparisions using fs2004.  That will tell you almost exactly where you stand in the scheme of things.

Also go to the ATI website and download the newest drivers for the card.  Likely the ones out of the box are out of date a bit.

Don't expect "miracles" from the card.  I have the top of the "older generation" cards.... the 9800XT ....... and it does not allow me to max everything 100% and still get good framerates (I define that as a minimum of 27-30).  It takes not only a good video card... but also a fast processor, lots of fast RAM, and a fast fsb to really max out this sim.

best,

...................john

PS:  It is more about the graphics processor speed and the open pipelines... than it is about the RAM on the card.  Some ATI Radeons with 128 of RAM outperform some with 256.

Batman, at all costs steer well clear of this card.... I have one  Undecided  and it's AWFUL. Maybe i'm doing it down a bit, i mean i'm sure it's better than a lot of cards out there, but for FS9...no. Microsoft Solitaire...yes.  Wink
Joking aside, it really is that bad. Unfortunately i have to stick with mine for the moment (1st child on the way...all funds diverted!  Grin) but as soon as i can afford it, i'm upgrading.
Rob.
P.S. fps between 9-12 at Heathrow pro scenery, with 80% traffic, all other sliders set to  two thirds of max on average.

The 9550 is much better than the FX5200.

You should stick with the 9550 until you can get something like a 6600GT.

You need the generic and all inclusive Catalyst 5.8 drivers here, all the radeon cards use the same driver suite.

http://www.ati.com/products/catalyst/index.html

Why are buying low end graphics cards for Simulation use?    ???

If you get the chance, do a benchmark with each card and tell us the answer as well.    Smiley

Its a budget card at best. I seriously recoimmend a 6600 gt. That will give you a serious performence increase.

I recommend the catalyst 5.8 with control panel.  Those are the latest drivers from ATI.  They are very good.

I have a link in my sig \/ (look down).  Wink
