I'm about to buy an COmbo from Newegg.com AMD 3700+ and a Biostar Nvidia Nforce 3 Motherboard and I was wondering if it would be compatible with 1gb of PC2700 that I already have that aren't a matched pair.
Thanks in advance

It should be fine, however, I believe you need DDR400 RAM (PC3200) to get the best memory bandwith, that said, I'm not sure.
Somebody such as Congo (another forum member who lurks here) will be able to elaborate further.

Compatible, yes it is. Advisable, no it is not.
DDR333 will slow down your system quite a bit.
You definitely need DDR400 to get the most out of your 3700 (I presume its a venice core, if not, get one with a venice core).
DDR400 is not expensive and is well worth the money for the performence it provides.

Well Thanks to both of ya for the advice,
After lookind around I realized that I would have to Spend another $89 for the memory because I'd have to get a gig worth and a real nice video card to get the most out of it. On top of that the processor was a socket 754 one which from what I heard was being phased out by the socket 939 so it would be pointless.
I changed my mind though, I was using a sempron 2800 socket 754 which I am going to either give to my brother if he wants it or sell it along with a Giga-byte motherboard and a Vantec Ion2 350-presleeved power supply and a case. I got me a Biostar iDEQ 210V Barebone along with an AMD 2800+ Barton instead. I know the socket A isn't the newest one around but I always wanted to have that barebone.

One question though ( trying not to start a new thread).
The Biostar iDEQ 210V comes with a CPU SHIM, would be this compatible with the AMD XP Barton series?
Does anyone happen to own one?

Selbio,
Don't waste your time and money on that junk please.
For the life of me I can't figure out what you are doing from these posts, but suffice to say that anything requiring a "shim" is gonna be trouble, believe me.
There are a plethora of top products on the market, let some sucker buy the junk and get a decent kit. Bargains are always available on good stuff, stay away from the cheap odd brands like BIOSTAR and stick with a trusted chipset.
You chose a VIA chipset for Socket A, haven't you seen us raving on and on and on about getting a nForce2 chipset for socket A ?

I woke up this morning with a different idea.
I bought the iDEQ and I'm going to give it to my wife, she loves it(Sure why not). I'm still keeping the Giga-byte board and I'm getting some PC3200 for now then I'll upgrade to the 3700+ next month on so. The Sempron 2800+ isn't the fastest thing but it plays fs9 maxed for now.

If the sempron has a 333mhz FSB speed, then your PC2700 is fine, remember, the trick with AMD machines is to run the RAM and CPU at the same frequency, despite the socket type.
You should stay with that rig and wait until you can get the best spec later on when you are ready.
You got sucked in by the case on that PC for your wife didn't you Selbio?

Well She does love it and it really looks neat and I tested it against the Sempron( By the way the Sempron is a not 333 it's 800MHZ fsb socket 754) and it socerd higher. THe sempron was around 8000 using 3dmark01 and the iDEQ 210V scored like 11000 with the same amount of ram and same type of video card. I guess the Sempron is not a gaming CPU after all but it does for now until I can get a Socket 939 motherboard along with a real fast CPU and DDR 400 Memry which is going to be my next investment since it way cheap now!!
Congo or anyone else do you know to create a bootable hard drive image using Norton Ghost 9?( Kind of like a HP or Compaq Recovery Disks)
