I put the Orange on the + on pin 1 and the white one on pin-3 right above it. 2 and 4 are the power led which works just fine so I couldn't have crossed it.

Well I can try saying "BUGGAR" very loudly but then I'd have to go outside and stand on a very hot and sunny day lol.

Anyways..........
How about re-flashing the BIOS and the Clear  DMI Data Pool and the Clear PnP Pool?

Check the case/LED end of the wires to see if they were wired correctly to begin with, behind the front panel......

Leave bios alone, it's not related to this prob.

If this problem persists, look not upon the board as faulty, but rather that it's telling you something is wrong.

Check your IDE cabling and that IDE device jumpers are set correctly......ie. Master / Slave settings correct, or that your HDD is on the end of the IDE 0 cable if you are using "cable select" jumper position, (the master position by cable select).

eek  Cry

Try disconnecting all other IDE devices and floppies, just leave the Bootable HDD on and try that, I'm running out of ideas.........

Mind you, if everything is functioning correctly, the HDD LED problem isn't REALLY a problem, so much as a nuisance. I've had similar experiences in the past, only to eventually find the error.

I did and it was the CD-ROM. no matter how I'd set the jumper it would cause that problem and other incompatibility problems.

Well there you have it.   Wink

Now you have an excuse to go out and buy a nice super-multi format DVD burner combo drive, they are cheap now. I'm getting a nice LG model here for about $45 US.

Solution: put the correct order on the cable. The ATA-66 cables are position sensitive again...

Quote:
Why is there a blue, a black, and a gray connector on my Ultra ATA/66 cable?

The 40-pin, 80-conductor cables support the Cable Detect feature. The blue (end) connector should be connected to the system board. The black (end) connector is known as the master position. The gray (middle) connector can be used for slave devices. Although an Ultra ATA/66 device should work fine in either the black or the gray connector, if you are having difficulty, consider troubleshooting with the drive in the black connector.

Isn't the first time stuff refuses to work when the cables are the wrong side around... Cable select never worked at all
