I good deal of people I maintain contact with (lets leave it at that) use some sort of coding that shows up as gibberish at my end. I've never worried about it, as the e-mail messages were largely in English, and all messages could be effectively replied to. However, tonight, all this gibberish has just really bugged the living daylights out of me, and I'm out to get these characters to display as they should. I've tried tinkering with Firefox settings, but nothings happened. The problem, while not as bad, also happens in Internet Explorer. :p
For example, in one e-mail, I recieved this
Quote:Korean!
hi=¾È³ç
bye=¾È³ç
Now I know there is supposed to be a Korean symbol in there, and it isn't showing up right. I had always suspected SBC's mail service was to blame, however I stumbled accross this with Google:
http://www.ldc.upenn.edu/Catalog/docs/LDC2003L02/ko_lex.txt
If you scroll down to section 4, sub-section a, you will see ¾È³ç being interpreted as "annyeng", exactly what was being attempted to convey to me in my e-mail.
Perhaps it's because it's late or pehaps it's 'cause I'm just dumb, but I can't make much sense o' this!
Can anyone help me out here?
