Hello all,

i think this is a lost course but thought to give it one last shot... i have an old system where i have recently installed xp home. Since then my trusty SW does not work anymore in fs2002. Strange enough it works when I go to settings on the main menu page but when exploring the world (flying) it is not working. I have (naturally) enabled the joystick but this option is "not clickable" on tyhe pulldown menu when inflight...

anyone that went through this before?

Erik

Did you calibrate it in the Windows utility?  Does that show it's working?

If so, the old tried and true method of getting it to work is to rename fs2002.cfg to fs2002. bak (or whatever), start FS and let it re-create the .cfg file (which it will do as soon as it starts) then go through the joystick settings again.  You will then need to either re-set everything or cut & paste the good and parts between fs2002.bak and your new fs2002.cfg.

I believe the Sidewinder Pro 1 is not compatable with WinXP.

I assumed it was XP compatible.  If the operating system won't recognize it the game won't.

That's right.

If you haven't already, maybe a visit to Microsoft's website will yield some information. It's just a guess but I suspect the data stream used in the older digital sticks is not compatible with XP's 32-bit operating system. I just hope the new 64-bit operating systems that aren't too far off don't obsolete my current sticks.

Webb, all,

you are all right. But Webb understood correctly first off. The stick is working under xp (well I can calibrate it) but not in fs2002. Tried to rename the .cfg file as Webb sugested but unable to do so. Fs2002 just attaches the .cfg at the end of whatever I renamed the file (e.g. fs2002.dat.cfg...) Most likely I'm just not clever enough with all this haha. Have the same problems under CFS2 so at least it's consistent. Shame, wanted to hang on to some old gear and upgrade big the next time... and flying from forli to campo di marina is just not the same with a keyboard  Sad

You might be able to find some help here:

http://support.microsoft.com/common/canned.aspx?R=d&H=Articles%20About%20Microso...

and here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;243981#XSLTH320812112212...; (This refers to FS2000 but most of it should apply to FS2002.)

and here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;831361

I have never known a renamed fs2002.cfg to rebuild itself as fs2002.xxx.cfg but if that is what happening try moving them to a place completely outside of your FS2002 directory.  It is safe to delete the file and FS will just make a new the next time you start it up but some people are paranoid about deleting what looks like a critical file.  If you move it far, far away you will be able to examine the difference between the old one and the new one if you are so inclined.

Ebagg2 ,
This may be of no help at all , but I have a Sidewinder Precision Pro ( I don't think it has a " one " after it ) and was using it with Windows 98 .  Trying to remember if my problem arose when I changed to FS2002 or to XP , but it would not recognize my Sidewinder ?  I was using the gameport and decided to just try connecting to the USB port and it recognized it and installed and never had to use the CD .  It is working beautifully with FS2002 Pro and XP .
Wish this would help .

hey jamie, thanks,
the stupid thing is that xp has no problems with it (well, it appears that way) again, I can calibrate the stick but fs2002 does not want to know it.

ebagg2 ,
I probably have about the same system you do so I can't undestand why it won't work with FS2002  ?  If you are connected to the game port , you might try the USB .  I'll go back through some of the settings to see if I can figure out something that might be causing a problem .

Jamie,
That would be very nice. I do not have a USB adapter here but I'll get one. I have read of many users that do not have problems, specialy after having the stick calibrated in windows... I think that is what is ticking me off the most, it should work.
