Hello all,
My friend is a FS Fanatic and takes his time to buy everything payware that he can. Recently he bought a LAGO product (didn't tell me which...but I am sure its the Falcon). While installing he provided an authentic key. Keep in mind he bought it from LAGO so it's not illegal or whatever. While installing, he got a message saying that if the key was found to be illegally shared over the internet, the installer will take measures. Just out of curiosity as this is a first for me, what in heavens name can an installer do? I mean, it can't wreck your machine....... or can it?  Shocked
Thanks,
Ashar Wink

Im not sure on this, bit if its found not to be a key withing the range of keys Lago uses, it will disable some features, or miss out some of the installation.....or it could be a scare tactic

also im quite sure that Lago uses a set key range for each of their products, so if you try to use a key within a range of another product maybe it will install but totally be useless...i dont really know but these are my theorys, only bought 2 things from Lago, so im just going by what my serials look like and the way i would think the Lago software works.

Well the installer will more than likely if you are using a key that has been "illegally obtained" will give Lago the ability of pursuing legal action.

Oddly enough there are many sneaky ways that payware developers (anyone that has a product that costs money on the web, doesnt matter what product) have come up with to ensure that their products are bought legally and not downloaded by someone on the net for free.

Plus there are people out there that look at a thread like this and wonder if its a case of trying to cover up some kind of illegal activity by saying I have this friend that...kind of like the ole "I have a friend that (insert some kind of behavior here) when its actually the individual telling the story, and those people inform places like Lago just to be sure that their products are not being stolen.

Savas,

Yeah.... I was kinda' wondering about that too.  8)

I understand that some software has the ability to connect to the net when the computer with the illegal installation is online and send a copy of the offender's IP address to the company in question.  It is easy enough to set up....basically it is spyware.  Not sure about Lago though.

Guys...I really doubt its Ashar, hes over here in the states, about 5,000 miles from his computer... Roll Eyes

And I don't think LAGO will do anything, I have bought alot of things from them...(...and yes I know its illegal, but I do it to everything)...and disassembled the installer... Tongue

One thing that I have noiticed, most payware companies is all talk, they honestly doesn't try to do anything or they can't do anything, its almost always a scare tactic...

(I can send you a copy of my bill, and you would say that I boght all my stuff without thinking twice Wink)

lol....

Jeff and Ashar,

Sorry if we (Mods) come off a tad "cynical" about such questions........... but these types of questions always seem to be just a tiny bit "suspect".  SimV's policy is to actively discourage piracy....... and it is a personal pet peeve of my own too.... as a published software, writing, and music author.

It is just that so many people these days seem to think nothing of "just" making ONE illegal copy of a plane, a song, a movie,  or whatever.  When it is pointed out as illegal and theft, most don't seem to see it as stealing something that is not theirs.  Many feel like it is somehow "their right".

People who woould NEVER see a tool or something like that sitting on a display unattended in front of a store and then rip it of......... blithely rip off software, songs, and movies.  Many then boast about it.

The practice with songs and "file sharing" .....which is a really poor euphimism for "file stealing" ....... is SO rampant... that in the last 5 or so years... it has transformed the music industry and it's distruibution model.  Many hard working artists have lost out on a LOT of money in the process.

So Ashar... if this is truly your friend and it truly is a legal code....... I apologize for possibly "casting aspersions" in your direction.

best,

...........................john
