That card sucks. In fact, your current card may perform better than it.

Consider getting a 6600 gt. Then you'll see your performence skyrocket.

Agreed,  worse than a 9800pro, and possibly the 9800SE. Definately not worth the upgrade. Look for a 6600GT or X700 and better if you want an improvement. If it costs too much now, wait until you save for it. No point in buying anything less considering the card you have.

Andy,

You, like most people, are under the mis-apprehension that the more RAM on the Video card, the better.

This would be true if all ram were the same, but it is not.

Typically, manufacturers put 256mb of cheap RAM on their sub-standard cards in order to flog off junky products to the unsuspecting.

The ONLY good video cards with 256mb of quality RAM carry a hefty price tag...... ie. the NV6800GT's.

So, beware, if it's cheap and has 256mb of RAM, it will be a poor peformer in comparison to an equivalent card with 128mb of quality ram. I guarantee it.

I see in your spec that you bought an el cheapo 9800SE, the SE is a dead giveaway of substandard cheap RAM, because that's why the SE's were cheaper than the other 9800's of the time. So, you have experienced the rip off already, had you purchased the more expensive 9800pro or 9800XT, you would have bought a card with decent quality ram onboard, and you probably would not need to upgrade now.

The video card is the one component that you can't skimp on price with, you only cheat yourself.

...Mainboard: Asus P5K-Premium, CPU=Intel E6850 @ x8x450fsb 3.6ghz, RAM: 4gb PC8500 Team Dark, Video: NV8800GT, HDD: 2x1Tb Samsung F3 RAID-0 + 1Tb F3, PSU: Antec 550 Basiq, OS: Win7x64, Display: 24" WS LCD
