How do I figure out which aircraft I can add to FS 2002 or 2004 ?  Also are there more sites to download aircraft ?

Hi Weldo, and welcome to Simviation!

The main site has different addon library sections for FS2000, FS2002, FS2004, ect for each respective simulator version. If it's labeled FS2004, then obviously itll work Wink, however, not all FS2002 or CFS2 aircraft are fully compatible with FS2004. They have to be either Gmax or FSDS2 models. If an FS2002 or CFS2 aircraft is either of the two, it will most likely say in the file description or in the readme.

There are a lot of addon sites for the flight simulator, but you came to the best first, so why leave? Wink

A couple other big sites are www.Avsim.com and www.Flightsim.com.

Also, be aware that once you enter the world of downloading addons for the flightsimulator, hug your family goodbye, because you won't be noticing them for a while Grin

If you have any questions or need help just ask away

A lot of FS2004 planes, and scenery, will work for FS2002, usually fine, but not too well if your computer wasn't good enough FS2004.  I've never had a problem with a plane from FS2004 in FS2002, except for an Airbus A380 made by Robert Versulys (SP?).

For sites, I recommend fsplanet.com (be warned though, its tough to get a download on there if you're a free member, I can never download anything off it, so I just use it as a guideline of what to download off other sites.)

Also theres surclaro.com.  It's a wonderful site, with a top addons category, and a huge screenshot place (I enjoy it a lot Grin)  But you do have to register to use it, but don't worry, its free.

Sorry to go off subject here but am I the only one to be really uncomfortable about DataForge's sig and the site he's linking to.

I hope not because if I am I think it's time I and my generation moved on... Angry

Hi Roller,
If you mean FSplanet, I am a little uncomfortable too. That site hosts...well illegally if I'm not wrong. I don't about the sig though. If you mean its kinda large for its size then yeah, but if it's representing something else, can't figure it out...

Cheers,

DON'T TOUCH FS PLANET. IT IS ILLEGALLY OPERATING AND THE ADMIN IS A WELL KNOWN THIEF IN THE FS WORLD.

That over with... Wink

Here is the downloads section divided up into the various classes. The newst ones are at the end and the old (first add ons) are at the beginning, page 1. I advise you work backwards as some designer make updates later on.
One must is the STRM mesh. Get the map and work out the areas you want to fly in and download! Wink

I mean the site in the sig. I'm afraid that I do not think sites that contain fetish information amongst others are suitable for linking to on SimV. I also do not think that ANY representation (except a bona fide pic of a WWII aircraft) of the swastika symbol, especially one that seems to glorify it, is suitable for an international site such as SimV.

As far as I am concerned there are still some standards. Period.

And if you must know, I'm also worried why we appear to have yet another 14 year old who has apparently been dormant since October 2004 and makes his 'debut' in such a way. And read his other posting in the CFS section...

I'll go along with that.

Hey Guys.....this was supposed to be a cry for help from Weldo...what must he be thinking...he only joined us today and has had his post hijacked in no uncertain terms.......IMHO you (WE) should all apologise and give the guy a chance.............Sorry Weldo, I can only say that this is not the usual way we greet new members..........commoner Roll Eyes Sad

commoner, if you check, Weldo's a big boy - think he might understand and might also sympathise a bit. In any case, his post was already hijacked in a far more unsavoury manner and it's someone else who should be apologising IMHO.

A Fetish site?  Somethingawful.com is a humor site, that Nazi thing came from their Photoshop Phriday "Postcards from the Edge."  I thought it was funny, and related to WWII.  I'm sorry you got upset, and thinking that i'm trying to hijack it?  I find that truly funny.  Really, all that's happened, was that I went over to the Sim-Outhouse forums for awhile, and then decided to come back.  In all seriousness, I do not know why you people are freaking out over such things.  Also,  I did not know that about fsplanet.com, thank you for mentioning it to me.  And yes, I have changed my sig.  Happy?

alright people, the newbies are gettin flustered.

lets give them a better simV greeting than this.

Welcome Weldo!!!

if you want some reccomended site for downloads:

www.simviation.com (of course!)
www.avsim.com
www.flightsim.com

then speciality sites that do well on making good representations of aircraft:

www.projectopensky.com
www.suclaro.com
www.wspilots.com
www.sgair.net (under construction)

and somewhere within avsim is Project Fokker, which is extremely good!

again welcome to the community, people arent normally like this to newbies!

www.suclaro.com? Now, maybe it's my mistake but I never succeeded in downloading something from them. I was either transferred to another site with payware or sites like E-Bay. But then again it might be my mistake.

Weldo, Sorry, jumped right in there.
Before you start downloading files etc, make sure you've read the tutorials on what you're doing..simple advice, i know, but if as you say you're new to flight simming it can be a bit daunting!
A good place to start is right here on SimV, check out the tutorials in the home page. Smiley
I've learned a lot from this site, hope you will too.
Happy simming!
Rob.

Sir Crashalot, i've never had a problem downloading from there in recent months, but when I used to have dial-up, they had put in the premium servers, so we got less bandwidth, and it used to be rare when I could download a plane, but now that I have DSL i've never had a problem, could it be that you have dial-up?
