Hello Lads...!
...another job for Batman...

More Windows XP probs...!
(All settings selected to run as "Classic Mode".

When I first installed Win XP Pro...the following sequence occurred during start-up:
1 Press power button.
2 Normal DOS boot-up.
3 Windows welcome screen, (with animated loading strip).
4 My desktop.
....all automatic!

Shut down:
1 Start  > Shut-down/Restart/ options from the start Menu. (The same as Win '98).
2 Full size screen > Saving settings.
3 Windows closes.
...all automatic!

....the same as Windows '98...!
*******************************************************************************
Now, I must have "accidently?" fiddled with my settings somewhere, and changed the sequence/appearance to this....

Start-up:
1 Press power button.
2 Normal DOS boot-up.
3 Administrator/Guest* window pops-up, requiring password, (Press Enter).
4 Windows welcome screen, (with animated loading strip).
5 My desktop.
* ( I have disabled the Guest option).

Shut down.:
1 Start > Shut-down > A separate Administrator window pops up with options > Log off (Me)/Shut down/Restart/Stand by.
2 Separate window pops-up stating "Saving settings"
3 Windows closes.

Note that I now get these annoying Administrator, etc,  pop-up windows, requiring action, appearing during the start-up and shut-down process. I am now forced to log on and log off...!
*******************************************************************************

As a single** user, all I require is the normal, simple Windows '98 start-up, shut down sequence which I originally had after installing XP.
These new pop-up windows means that I have to remain at the computer to select these options....
...no sliding off to make a cup of tea while it all works automatically...LOL...!!
I don't need all this "Administrator/User Accounts", messing about, malarky...LOL...!
I am the "Administrator", but I don't want it to keep reminding me that I am...fer cryin' out loud...!
Any ideas where I have to peek/change, to revert this back again to my simple Windows XP automatic start-up/shut down process in Classic Mode.

Many thanks...

Cheers all.

Paul...A lover of all things quick and simple..(Like Windows, flippin', '98SE...)...!

Hm, everytime I get this problem, I just change one or two things in TweakUI (section: "Log On") and everything works as fine as before.
Give TweakUi a try if you want, Paul. It's an official tool from Microsoft, only ~150kb in size and really, really helpful.
