Honestly..... what can you expect from a combat flight sim? Eye candy?...... ugh obviously it would kill the graphics cards with explosions going off and tracers everywhere and high up to and back manuvers....  so you deal with what you have.... CFS3 is fun, graphics are like FS9 you cant always max FS9 can ya? exactly.... this topic has been thrown about so many times its pointless these days...... So drop it and save your bloody hands from all the typing, Cheers, Gunny

cfs3 is the only sim I have currently, and the first I have really played in about 10 years. My earliest flight sim experience was "Night Gunner" on the ZX81, and since then I've played many and varied. There was even one for the Sinclair QL, red backgrounds and black outline scenery. Contrast that with what CFS3 can achieve, coupled with one of the few flight sims which tries to give you a sense of the insane futility of flying towards the ground at 400mph in a tin coffin, directly into the line of fire of the massed AA defenses of your opponents. Read some of the accounts of the tactical air war, Pierre Clostermann for example, and then set the AAA setting on CFS3 to max and give it a go yourself.
I have certainly seen some of the multiplayer issues described, but nothing is perfect, and with some of the AVHistory freeware it can be a hell of a lot better. Zuyax's textures and repaint's are phenomenal, I'm just waiting on a mossie.

I'm planning to get fs2004 for the better graphics and multiplayer, but I will still go back to cfs3 for the uncertainty of going in on a mission and not knowing if I will be left on the deck with no controls, no engine, and no hope of gaining enough altitude to bail, it's find a road or die time.

i'm not exactly saying eyecandy is necessary, but some good looking exterior models wouldn't kill the graphic card would it? Tongue

Guys lets not turn this into a "who can pee furthest contest".
Either you like CFS3 or you prefer another sim. Personally I've got Il-2, all the CFSs, Janes and a wad of others and I like them all for different reasons.
CFS3 is probably the most expandable combat FS available which is a bonus for those of us who are fussy Wink

Hey Bear, if you want anyone to have a play?

I was looking at the MAW progress pics, the skins look fantastic, how long before we get our hands on them?

Cheers

The current version of Molly has been posted to MAW's data base so that the a custom MAW paint job can be developed for its inclusion in that add-on.

Additional B-17 variants E & F will be released in both MAW & AvHistory versions.

The AvHistory versions will also be re-paintable with permission.

The most important thing to remember about MAW is we are just a small part of a very lagre group of teams all working on different portions of the add-on.

With the standardization of our development system at 4.00.25 we have begun to convert the MAW specific planes. Its a one plane at a time deal but we should be able to move pretty quickly.

I do not know if AvHistory or one of the other MAW teams is the critical path at this time so I really can't say when it will get released.

I can say this...the version of MAW I use in testing our flight packages is very well developed & fully playable which suggests the other teams are also making excellent progress.

In the meantime here are a few MAW planes we are working flight packages up for you may not have seen before.

They look great Bear.....where did the wingtip vortices come from, they're not standard CFS3 are they?

And what is that sharkmouth? It's a new one on me!

Thanks for what AVH provides already for CFS3. As per the thread in the freeware screenies forum, the Zuyax painted Spit's are incredible to look at and fly.

Cheers

Its an extra effect, I believe FOX created it but am not positive. There are also contrails available.

...

The Shark's mouth aircraft is a RAF Tomahawk IIA (Model H81-A2) version of the P-40B.

The Shark's mouth is most associated with the Flying Tigers on their P-40's but the AVG actually copied the idea from RAF No. 112 Squadron.

The first Desert Air Force squadron to be equipped with Tomahawks was No. 112 which exchanged its Gloster Gladiators (also in MAW) for the Curtiss fighter.  No. 112 Squadron became famous for its "shark's mouth" insignia on the engine cowling, and this scheme was later adopted by the American Volunteer Group in China.

Zuyax also created the entirely new Spifire visual, they are not stock repaints & we have quite a few more versions in our backlog.

If the contrails and vortices are available for download then let me know where, they look great.

If they are only available as part of MAW then that's just something else to look forward to!

They should be avaliable on this site.

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/forumdisplay.php?f=7

Best either ask in the forum or look in the resources section.  They may be standalone or packaged with other "effects" as a single download - its been a long time & I can't remember.
