I been strugling with an overspeed problem for a while now, I've tried many things to raise the 200 knot overspeed of the GeeBee and S6-B. I've read what I could find about .cfg files, but no improvment, I 've used the "singleenginepropHP" temeplate for both projects. With out seeing the file for yourself is there a common problem often over looked by new designers? THX again guys

You can set the overspeed limits in the .air file. I'd recommend AirED (available here) as the best tool to use rathert than M$'s very buggy FSEdit.

Overspeed is affected by two settings in the .air file: line 316 (Mmo - maximum mach) and line 1100 for the primary aerodynamics, in which you'll find Vmo (maximum knots). These will both have varying effects depending on your height and speed. At low altitudes (below aprox. FL150) then the Vmo figure will have preference. Choose your optimum speed in knots plus the equivalent in Mach if the plane flies above FL150 (not the Gee Bee, I guess!) and then set the Vmo (and/or Mmo) slightly above this in the .air file.

That should cure it.

I seem to be having problems with overspeed with all the planes I have made. No matter what I put into the line 316 Mmo and line 1101 sub-line Vmo fields with AirEd the overspeed warning activates at somewhere around 300-400 knots. This is especially annoying with the Tu-360 that should reach Mach 3! Is there something else I might be doing wrong?
Any help would be greatly appreciated so I could rectify this problem with my future releases. I have received several complaints of this via e-mail from users of my aircraft.
Thank you in advance.

You should be able to correct it in the aircraft.cfg file in the Reference Speeds Section:

[Reference Speeds]

flaps_up_stall_speed    =  86.9
full_flaps_stall_speed  =  66
cruise_speed            =  269
max_indicated_speed =  304
max_mach = .56

The following is from the Aircraft Container SDK:
cruise_speed: Typical cruise speed of the aircraft in a clean (flaps up) configuration at a typical cruise altitude, (Knots True Airspeed, KTAS).

max_indicated_speed: Maximum design indicated airspeed.  Also referred to as Never Exceed Speed or “Red Line” of the aircraft,  (Knots Indicated Airspeed)

max_mach: Maximum design mach of the aircraft.  This generally only applies to turbine airplanes.

Please note how the speed is specified in each, KTAS Vs KIAS

I'm a little confused now (not difficult actually!). Other feedback here in the past has indicated that the reference speed section of the aircraft.cfg file only applies if the plane is used as AI - that it doesn't have any effect on the plane that you're flying. Can anybody confirm or otherwise?

I use these (in addition to the tables mentioned) to control Overspeed Warnings for my aircraft and they do in fact work to adjust these factors with the air files I am using.

I think the confusion comes in because one speed is stated in KTAS, one in KIAS, and one in Mach.

Sorry, I cannot speak to the AI question as I have no experience there.

I have these set up as

Code:
flaps_up_stall_speed=143.000
full_flaps_stall_speed=120.000
cruise_speed=2400.000
max_indicated_speed=2500.000
max_mach=6.000

but it doesn't help.
Anything else...?

Thought I heard somewhere that there was a maximum speed restriction in FS2004, somewhere around Mach 4 I believe - cannot find the link now - anyway, why not try reducing your VMax settings by half and see if that works, if so then move them up incrementally from there.  For the record, here is the speed section for my aircraft which works fine - the extra 0's shouldn't matter but you never know.

[Reference Speeds]
flaps_up_stall_speed=145.000000
full_flaps_stall_speed=110.600000
cruise_speed=990.0000000
max_indicated_speed=1435.000000
max_mach=2.500000
