This is kind of hard to explain so hope it makes sense.  I have an area that I would like to add more scenery to, ideally adding an exclusion area and building completely new objects upon, but am concerned about reaching a "saturation" point as a good deal of nearby scenery has already been similarly modified.  Wondering whether keeping the default (autogen) scenery with some intersparsed addon objects would be preferable in maintaining reasonable performance in the sim.  In other words, does the sim still "read" the default scenery along with the exclusion and new objects placed over it altogether, or does only the scenery which is displayed in the sim (e.g., the new stuff cancels out what's underneath) count?  Thanks for any help on this as I don't want to start on extra work that may end up impractical to use.

Not sure what you mean but i think i do, I used flight simulator scenery creator to add my home town city centre to the default fs2002 scenery and i found that if i just added buildings the autogen buildings stayed in place and were only cancelled out if a new building i added was over top of an autogen one. I then found that if i added roads, ie i added the ring road round Sheffield city centre and when i tried it all the autogen scenery within the roads area had dissapeared. Either way it made no difference to the framerate. I am now redoing my Sheffield city centre scenery to work with the  VFR scenery so that all the buildings are in the correct place. Once finished i will put it on here or avsim for download.

Thanks - that's what I was looking for, whether completely redone scenery would reduce framerates more drastically than the oddly-placed extra building.  Will continue on with more items then... Cheesy

Another question - you mentioned redoing roads - would you mind sharing what utility you are using for this (assuming it's for FS2004)?  Thanks.

I use flight simulator scenery creator and just use the textures for all my buildings and roads that are located in the flight sim texture files. I only sometimes modify my textures using texbmp2. I run my scenery on fs2002 and fs2000 though it should work on fs2004. As for the redoing all i am redoing is the buildings to be in the correct places using the VFR scenery  of England and Wales so in that i will not need to draw any roads since they all there on the ground textures.
I will try and post some screenshots to show you. Hope this helps. Smiley

Very nice - when it's done could you share some pics of the real thing with a screenshot or two, would be nice to see the end result.

I'll probably do some more to the scenery over the weekend. At the moment i doing the tallest buildings in sheffield (not that many here though and the tallest is only 254ft) before i start on smaller blocks of buildings. The heights of the buildings should be right as well on the vfr scenery. On fs2002 autogen i made them taller inorder for them to appear above the autogen buildings. If you ever been to Sheffield you will know that the city centre stands out against the backdrops of hills and houses and the odd high rise flats thats left. Fs autogen scenery kind of hides it. I will also be doing Rotherham town centre for the Vfr scenery, infact i already started it i done all saints church and clifton court flats. I will post more pics when i can.

Hello madyorkie

To put pics on here upload them to simviation im guessing you have already done it,

copy the link,

Where you have the smiles up the top when you are typeing a post just above the smileys you will see buttons the one between the E-mail and the ftp buttons it's called (img) click on it onece then paste your link that you copied when you uploaded your pic then click that (img) button again now your pic should show.

I havent done it on this forum but it works on other forums so it should work. 8)

PS: i am looking forward to seeing your scenery when it's finished.

Good luck.
