I'm looking for a used e46 BMW 330D - The one Jensen Button got caught speeding in a few years back.
I've learned of the tuning potential of these cars, and I know of one up for sale near me for about £6k
Tempting indeed,
http://videos.onestopwebhosting.com/Videos/antandpete0-200kmh-0.wmv
Watch this video, remember its a diesel! - even if it has been modified somewhat! - It has uprated brakes, available from your local dealer, and an engine "chip change " to give the extra power!
Petrols days are numbered if this is the way diesel engines are going!

- The creators of the car in the video.
0 - 60MPH 5.9 Seconds
0 - 100 MPH 14.1 Seconds
0 - 124 MPH 19.8 Seconds
Top Speed over 155MPH
40+ MPG !
0 MPH - 124 MPH & Back to 0 MPH in under 27 Seconds!!!
I want one!

not bad for a diesel, but at least over on this side of the pond petrol power is not going to be taken over by the diesel engine
although i would love to slam that VW V10 TDI into a jetta or someother small VW
(1 small chip and that thing hass 900 ft-lbs!)

You have the good fortune to not pay 80% (think about that!) Fuel tax.
Some parts of London are over £1 per litre! or, roughly, $10 U.S. for a gallon (UK liquid)!!!
hence my desire for the diesel!
That torque figure is mighty impressive! What size is that engine???
To give you an idea why I'm interested, my 12Litre Truck's figures are 2100 Nm at 1100-1350 r/min! - OK alot more, but, its designed to pull 44ton! 900Nm in a car? WOW!

it is a Twin Turbo 5 liter V10 diesel
in stock form it makes 400bhp and 750 Nm (but with just a chip and reworking the turbos can nearly double the torque)

My Truck has an in-line 6 12 litre producing 420BHP ! Single turbo.
I'd love to try yours!

just wanna make sure we are all talking about the same type of truck here? Remembering truck in the US is usually a pick-up truck where as here its usually used for 18 wheelers and the smaller varients.

actually i am talking about a production SUV (not mine, but i would love the engine from it) from VW (so it is not much of a pick up truck)

i have a plan (dream) for a sleeper car to build when i am a bit less concerend about money. my plan:
THE SUPER TDI SLEEPER:
take this:
from this:
and put into this:
add Audi quatro all wheel drive, a 6 speed with a nice strong tranny, a nice chip to unleash some more ft-lbs, and some wide sticky tires and zoom ultimate sleeper! would probably require a bit of chassis cutting, but i can dream

thoose would be nice, i have some other custom car ideas too
but we are talking about diesels guys!!!
p.s. craig, a aston is a bit of a heavy car for the dynamics of that engine, but that engine in an old dino (wow that would be fast) or a modern small fiat (or even a miata
)

Indeed! Diesels!
Your project sounds great BMan! 8) Treestump pulling torque in such a light car! that would be crazily fast, given a transmission & gearing tough enough to take it!

My 'Vette beats that by 1.7 seconds!
If you want performance get a 'Vette W/Z51!
Plus, she has a HUD, GPS nav system and is just as comfortable as any BMW I've ever owned/driven.
Oh, and at 28MPG her mileage is nothing to sneeze at for a sportscar!
AMD Athlon 64 3700+&&GeForce FX5200 256Mb&&1GB DDR400 DC&&Seagate 500Gb SATA-300 HDD&&Windows XP Professional X64 Edition
&&&&That's right, I'm now using an AMD! I decided to give them another try and they kicked the pants off of my P4 3.4!

a) Scania is talking about a
Diesel
here.
b) Those technical gadgets are
so
unnecessary.

My responce is what Dornier 328-110 said......
I'd take that smug look off your face now !
28MPG is good, I doubt its anywhere near that figure when you drive it as its designed to be driven though......
Those performance figures I quoted are pretty good by your
average
petrol engines standards, the fact its a diesel is quite remarkable.
Over in europe, we like cars that handle as well, as they go fast in a straight line........
I know which I'd have. 8)
