I wanted copy some DVD's so I could take them on the road for the kids to watch, so I went out today and bought a new Dual Layer DVD drive to replace my older 4.7 Gig version.  However, I got a bit of a sticker shock when I found out the price of the discs!  $20.00 for 3 discs is ridiculous.  For the money I invest in blank media, I might as well just go out and buy extra copies of the movies.

All is not lost, however.  I can now back up my entire 6 Gig aircraft folder on one disc!  Grin

Dual layer discs are insanely expensive.  I've got a dual layer drive, but I've yet to burn dual layer discs.  lol  (For the same reason.)

Honestly, I don't think single layer discs are THAT expensive, so I'll prolly just stick to those except for special occasions.

Yeah. The drives are dirt cheap. I 've see 6x DVD-R DL  drives for under 80 bucks.

The discs however are insanely expensive.

As for copying movies, here's my take:
JUST BUY ANOTHER COPY

Why:
-its not illegal
-it costs less
-it costs less time
-no loss of quality

Wow, to us over here across the pond, that actually seems insanely cheap, 3 dual layer DVDs for $20 is something like £12 for us, meaning that each is £3... the price of a normal, single-sided DVD... Roll Eyes

Kevin

My reason for making copies is due to my teenage daughter not putting them away.

What do computers and air conditioners have in common?...
They both will work perfectly, until you open windows.

Thats correct, but only if you DON'T break the CSS protection. To copy most hollywood DVD's, you must break the protection. Thats illegal.

BTW, this only applies if you live in the US.
