The Just Flight Spitfire package is nice (should have the wee issues sorted with the patch v.shortly).
Otherwise I'd go freeware
There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

The Aeroworx Harvard/Texan look very promising too, and the Captain Sim Yak-3 is on offer at the moment and is great fun to fly (small aeroplane+big engine=
)

The Icarus Golden Wings collection has quite a few WWII planes, but I found the Mustang to be a bit lacking. The above mentioned planes are all awesome, and Aeroplane Heaven keeps threatening to release their Corsair package soon. Who knows when they will, but it looks awesome...

I forgot the MAAM DC-3, a classic bird and there is a nice D-Day scheme out for her

with the just flight spitt i will wait till the patch is out..and check what anybody says then.
the maam dc3 is really sweet but im lookin more for armed planes...but i know that maam is allready working on a turkey...Grumman tbm-3 . i taked a look at the aeroplane heaven corsair and this bird is really lookin good... lets see when it will be finished.
charlie i checked the icarus ones to, and youre right..they looking a bit hm... not really good....but if the aeroworx texan flyes as good as she looks then this could be a candidate for my next buy

The same reason you need any payware version of a plane. As good as the freeware versions are (and they are excellent), the payware versions will usually knowck your socks off.

Let me get my operations management book and formulas out and we shall see how long each person must wait in line for the download..

LOL
Not as long as the queue for the Capt. Sim C-130. Or you could try the new SimShed one here at SimV. It looks very good...

Unless a developer has access to the real world plane they are modeling I'd stay with freeware. The exception of course is the MAAM B-25 and WOP. The thing with most WW 2 war birds is that the real planes are in short supply and the men who flew them are even in shorter supply and getting shorter everyday. There for a gaurenteed correct flight model may be hit or miss.
