Hey guys! Sorry if this has been posted before. I've tried searching, but didnt come up with anything relevant. When doing an ILS approach with the APR hold switched on, 99% of the time, the wing level switch lights up and will NOT shut off. Obviously, this is a problem...I cant follow the approach if I can't turn. Am I missing something?!  ???

Thanks in advance for the help.  Smiley

Whenever the AP is engaged (Z), the wing leveler will also automatically be engaged.  In order to properly follow the glideslope, make sure of three things, in this order-

1. F/D (flight director) is ON, so is master AP switch

2. Nav/GPS switch is set to NAV

3. When both the F/D and AP are on, you can then hit APP-however, this will only kick in when the airplane detects the glideslope.  Unless you intercept the ILS relatively on course and FROM BELOW APP will not properly engage.  You must be in the right position for APP to work!

This is a 'feature' of FS2002 (and FS2004) that you can fix if you are knowledgeable about how the aircraft.cfg file works.

If you open the file in Notepad and add the following two lines to the [autopilot] section, then the problem will go away:

use_no_default_pitch=1
use_no_default_bank=1

Make sure you back up your aircraft.cfg first!

...this is an irritating thing to some, including me, and is regarded as a "Bug" by many..........if you can't or don't want to mess with the aircraft.cfg file then one way to cancel the leveller is to click the heading hold button quickly on and off again.......this works in in FS9 at least, so should do in 2k2.

...I believe the problem is really  with the heading hold, which comes on by default when the AP is turned on, rather than with the leveller though the effect is the same and the fix is just as microlight says......you do have to check EVERY aircraft individually though.........just try it eh?....commoner Wink
