Sadly, MG Rover, the U.K.'s last volume car company has gone to the wall, its a shame, a great shame.

Alas, the fact remains, had they build good cars in the first place, they would'nt be in this situation.

R.I.P. the British Car industry.  Roll Eyes

I heard someone on the radio saying they would've preferred to have been made redundant 5 years ago, now there is all this fiasco with loss of redundancy money etc...

....I'm sure they weren't saying that 5 years ago. I thought they were quite happy Phoenix came along...

Nope Chris. Had they dissapeard 5 years back the workers would have gotten a huge payoff and i mean huge. But the union leaders wouldn't allow it to happen, and now the money they will get isnt even close. Thats what you get for putting idiots incharge of your union.

Yep. I suppose there are going to be some serious bouts of hindsight in the next few weeks. I think the pheonix chaps may be in a spot of bother...

I don't remember what it was all about now but it seems to me they would have been better off sticking with Honda.  I had a couple of Rover company cars at that time & they were really very good. 414 I think they were with the Rover engine. These were supposed to have been better than the Honda engine.

Can't say Honda are complaining they moved away from Rover. I think Honda at Swindon have been a shining example to all - demonstrated by the fact that from next year, Honda Civic's for the Japanese market will be built at the South Marsden plant and shipped around the world...
