Ok, in my previous post about my Whitestar was that The textures didn't show up in gmax.  Just a few moments ago i took a close look at the section I was texturing and found out that the flat portions were texturing as they were supposed to but, the rounded sections turned to a dark grey.  If anyone knows how I can fix this, I'll greatly appreciate the help.

how are you applying the textures to your parts?

a simple way is to simply drag and drop them from the material navigator list

*when you drag and drop a texture, make sure the part does not already have a material applyed to it, if so, use the material remover function in the tools section (warning - no undo)

then, depending on the shape of the part, the texture will look all weird, or even totally gray...

thats when the mapping part comes in Smiley

Gmax has some neat tutorials about mapping...
or you can look at www.freeflightdesign.com/tutorials.html for some more FS focused tutorials
there´s also the stupid idiots guide to Gmax, which is quite helpful (no link, sorry)

hope it helps   Wink

I did it as i always did in 3ds max 5.  I just selected the texture in the material editor and clicked on apply and show in viewport.

Everything that has a flat surface is textured.  But the rounded pieces all show up grey.
