In order to get the most of Pacific Fighters it is recommened to have Forgotten Battles and the Ace Expansion pack also (which can be bought in a Gold Edition which is both FB and AEP)
With these three installed as a "merged install" you will have the ultimate WWII Combat Sim.
To fly online you should have the FB/AEP/PF merged install becasue most servers fly this way.
PF as a stand alone can be rather boring, long flight times and lack of scenery on a mission seem to be the #1 complaint, but this is whined about by those that don't realize the Pacific doesn't contain to much scenery besides a lot of water Wink
There are also many people that create some awesome missions you can add to make your flights more exciting.
But with the "mergerd install" there is enough to do, fly and entertain to keep you busy for a long time to come Wink
I highly recommend it!

But it's boring nonetheless. Flying to mission objective: 20mins; dogfighting: 5mins; flying home: 20mins; trying to land on a carrier: 10mins.
Those five minutes of action aren't worth the fifty minutes of boredom.

The islands in PF are ugly, too. The forests look exactly the same like in FB and thus, the 'being there' feeling can't be found.

From most pilot accounts I have read about seems pretty realistic to me Wink  Actually 20 minutes to target would be a quick mission

I do agree without your tree and water setting in the config file set at the max, the surroundings do look bland.

Cunning plan by Oleg there. Spend £30 on PF. Then find that to enjoy it you need to spend another £60. Then you need to download about 600mb worth of patches before discovering that CFS2 beats it to a pulp. Nice. Smiley

An RAF pilot in the first Gulf War was once quoted as saying a mission was

Any less and I think the enemy are far too close... Wink

Aye, but with some of the scenery textures coming out these days it can look almost as good as FS9. Then consider that CFS2 can be enjoyed out of the box with out having to spend a futher £60 for two games and another year downloading all the patches. If you ask me PF is more of a joke than CFS3 ever was.

I got PF for $25, the Forgotten Battles Gold pack $20.
$45 total, I spent about that much for CFS3 and have yet been able to fly with it Wink
Haven't been able to find CFS2 but did get CFS1 for $9 and although it lacks anything spectacular it is fun to fly in.
I like the ability to use third party add-ons and skins but overall FB/PF is the ultimate combat sim despite the cost.

All depend when you buy them too.

I got IL2 about 6 months after it came out (2001/2002?)...
I got FB when it was released as a standalone (2003ish - it was going to be the original expansion pack to IL2)
Bought AEP when it was released a year or more later)
Bought PF late last year...

So over 4 years or more its really not been that bad...
