I passed my drivers liscence test last wednesday and on the saturday I spent my hard earned cash (I now know why the hel I work at Little Chef lol) on my new beautiful peugeot 106.
It is a 1.1 106 Zest2 2001 model with power steering, ABS, Airbag and most importantly CD player all for the price of £2900 runs like a dream and surprisingly powerful for a 1.1
Anywho what was your first car?

Mine was a 1989 pontiac grand am, got it in 2001. it was a real POS, but still had some get-up-and-go. A year (or so) after I got it, I pulled out in front of a plumber, and he crushed it with his big plumber van. No body was hurt at least...

Okay, I was able to find the one remaining person who had a picture of the thing I first had that some might call a "car".
To be fair, I've come a long way. Here's what I currently have:
*Disclaimer: Neither of these are my ACTUAL vehicles...just the result of a carefully chosen Google image search. I really own them, but not those in the pictures. lol

First car was a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro (thank you dad!). It ran like a dream and could smoke almost anything out there. Manual tranny, obviously locks and windows were manual. And airbags? What are airbags? Didn't exist back in the day.
Had it for six years, during college I went racing one night with a few friends, bumped into my adversary doing about 120, ended up spinning and rolling it four or five times, spent two weeks in the hospital.
Currently own a 2001 Porsche Boxter. Bought it new in 2000. I love it to death, power everything, manual transmission (why would you own a Porsche with an auto?), and air bags, which is nice. Looks almost exactly like this one. Hopefully I won't roll it, but I have managed to do 120.
Pilot for a major US airline certified in the: EMB-120, CRJ, 727, 737, 757, 767, and A-320 and military, T-38, C-130, C-141, and C-5 along with misc. other small airplanes. Any questions, I'm here for you.

since then ive owned a bmw 323i (quick), a tvr chimeara (quicker still! but too unreliable) and a few 205 gti's. i would say these are my favourite motors of all time, especially my current beast! oh, and ive got a boring vauxhall corsa for the missus too....blah!

Here's my first car:
It's a 1996 Chevy Camaro T-Top 3.8L (V6). I got it when I was a sophomore in high school back in February of 2000. When I got it, it had very low mileage for its age-about 24,000 miles. It was a great car to drive in high school and has served me well in college as well. It currently has about 41,000 miles on it (that should tell you that I don't do THAT much driving.
).

but if i have the money: ex-army Land Rover 88 Lightweight. usually in a better shape than the english ones, as the dutchies didn't try out the airdrop features.
UAZ would be nice too, but spares and certification are a problem in europe altough i have seen a fairly new one driving around in northern spain... which is landy heaven by the way

It's a honest car. The speedo ends at 160kph and that's where I've already put the needle on the Autobahn on a straight and level part. I just love that masterpiece of japanese engineering!
Sorry, in 90% of the cases I'm the one who's overtaking old people in their Benz.
And the guys that make me freak out the most on the Autobahn are BMW drivers, who claim to rule the left lane. A kingdom for an anti-tank missile....

My first car was a 1982 Ford Fiësta 1.0. Fitted with a 1.1 liter engine. Four cilinders roaring from the broken exhaust. Driven it for about two years. Sold it for more money than I bought it for.
Currently owning a 1992 Renault Clio 1.2 which is a light weight version (because of the holes the rust made in it).

Basically you don't get your kid a new car. Usually they are over five years old and have all the power of a hairdryer. If anyone has anything better then it implys either that they child is horribly spoilt, or that they have saved up for something they really want.

Its not that much, I got a quote for about £2000 a year however that was an expensive company, and i lived in a rough neighbourhood. The biggest problem is fuel costs, they have large engines so guzzle through fuel.

Series 2 Diesel. Preferable with the canvas roof as that would give me the option of four varients, estate, pickup, soft top and no top.

Seems that the classic landrover is in short supply here since the tax regulation for vans has changed...
Anyone that drove a vito or transit has been looking for something with a big trunk and low cost that hauls 1500kg trailers/caravans, so all the big (107, 109 and early 110) landies are gone except the terribly expensive ones (a 11000 euro Series 2 109 in concourse state), LPG modifications (
noooooooooo!!!!) and the non-drivable wrecks.
Anything from after 1980 and any non-diesel isn't an option as i have to pay the whole bunch myself (1600 fcking euros road tax for these if they are under 25 years of age), and i just don't have the money to keep the thing running if it isn't a diesel (see hint about sunflower oil)

Well, if your lucky you can pick up a Series II diesel short wheelbase for about £1500 round here. Any cheaper than that will require at least minor fixing up. Just got to keep scouring the classifieds...
The nice thing about them is that they are tax exempt. So no road tax to pay ,the insurance will be fairly cheap because it's so old and is rugged enough to survive a crash with almost anything.

They really aren't that popular as a first car here, I just got lucky basically. They are a very popular car, but usually kids get their first car because they're parents buy them one or they save up for one. Generally, they are too expensive for a high school kid to save up for (unless they are a 70s or 80s model because those can be dirt cheap-but not the newer ones) and the insurance is too high. Also, most parents won't buy one for their kids mainly because of the insurance cost and the higher performance-they are pretty easy to wreck.
But, they are an awesome first car from a drivers standpoint.

Ya the Camaros are nice cars.
Most kids I see around here are driving the small and cheap Hondas, Nissans, Mitsubishis, things like that. Less that their parents have to spend on insurance and less they gotta spend on gas. Not bad really.

Lots of them in the UK... and in northern Spain (Santana 109 Series 3 and 4)
If all else fails... time to dig around in the really interesting ones:
Aro from Poland, same as the ones they drive in Iraq at the moment.
Mahindra (CJ-5 from India), crap quality
Nekaf (DAF-built Willys). classic, rare.
DAF YA126... weighs 3350kg max, heaviest you can drive with normal license is 3500kg
