IF it's a smallish airplane, a smoothed 16 sided cylinder would be the minimum.
I like to start off with a 24-32 sided fuselage ... if I'm making a roundish tin sausage.
For real planes, I'll probably stay with an 8-16 sided cylinder...
(Where real plane is described as a mid-twenties/ early thirties open cockpit fighter)

real planes have props, fabric covering, struts, at least two mainplanes, and none of the wimpy stuff like "brakes", "glass panels", etc.

Without seeing a screenshot, ,.,,, because you made it that way ...
I presume you're using the latest version - 2.24?
Remember - in TOP view the nose points UP.
In side view - the nose points RIGHT.
