I don't much care about Nascar, (I like the video games though), I'll put a race on in the background if there is nothing else on, I don't really like how they make up and change rules throughout the season, but my woman likes to watch the races.
So a few minutes ago she calls me into the living room and is like "look at this" so I look at the TV and what do I see? I'm not sure, I thought it was a superbowl halftime show, people are dancing and there are marching bands and singing and music stars.
I'm like "What happened to racing?" Nascar used to really be about racing, but it seems like every year they get more and more gay.
It's starting to look like Nascar is taking the path of every other form of entertainment that may have been cool at one time, it is becoming so commercialized that it is really a bandwagon sport anymore, gay.
Even though I am an American, I prefer F1 or Indy car or Rally racing, at least they still focus entirely on racing and not big shows and marketing.
*Just my opinion, not meant to offend all the Nascar fans out there.

I expect that may be true in far-away lands, certainly not here in the U.S.

Yeah, I hear ya.
I've been a NASCAR fan since I was a wee tot, and I've seen it change drastically. They're trying to target a younger audience. And I really didn't like it when Vanessa Williams sung the Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful all syncopated... Sing it like it was written.
And Ricky Rudd just crashed, s it's been a bad race so far..

I haven't been watching much of the race (I don't like to watch car races on TV, I find it boring). Anyway, I think all the pre-race celebration is because this is the Daytona 500. It's the biggest race of the year and as a result, there is a lot of parades and celebration before. From what I have seen, this does not happen in the other races-only this one. It really is the NASCAR Super Bowl, and thats why they had all the extra stuff before the race (and why it seems more commercialized than usual).

At least there were a few good wrecks, and the last few laps were great.

makes you wonder how hard it is to drive 130+MPH within a foot of someone else, I mean it can't be that hard can it?

Try more like 180+mph, those cars really move. I must agree though, those last couple labs sure were cool. But, I wish they hadn't had that last caution flag at about lap 6-had that not happened I think it might have been much more interesting.

NASCAR is very over done. What happened? A MF named Tony George (partial owner of Indy Speedway) decided to start his own crappy little series (Indy Racing League) separate from CART (Champ Auto Racing Teams). This split lead to fans being split between the two series's, and american open wheel racing tripped over itself, networks left them, and the american racing fans turned to a form of racing that wasn't fighting itself (NASCAR).
NASCAR is still about the racing. The REAL difference between F-1 and NASCAR? The fans. NASCAR is built around its fans, so the rules, regs, and events is all for the fans. F-1 racing is more about the drivers enjoyment. Same in Champ Car and IRL. They are learning though.
Even though I too am a big F-1 fan, I still watch plenty of NASCAR races. Feeding the monster hillbilly juggernaught? Yes. Enjoyin' it? of course.
OOOOOOHh, its raining. GTG.

Another reason its about the fans. Restrictor plates make for some close exciting racing.
Hmmm, ARCA race last week-car spins backwards and takes flight. Truck Series friday-2 cars spin backwards, flip, and land on their wheels again. NASCAR sunday- car flips over like a dropped penny

So does limiting cubic inches to the point where small blocks are used. I feel the system did a better job of choosing the champion before they started restricing performance.
One thing I don't like is this new way to determining the champion, with the last 10 races determining the champ from the top 10 only. It almost makes the earlier races less important. The champion should be determined by the whole season. By forcing the point totals at the end of the season to be close-it only sells more tickets and makes TV ratings higher. It doesn't pick the best driver.

I totally agree. I mean, what would happen if it was a real close race in points (100 point difference from 1st to 11th lets say), and the guy in the lead of points gets in some nasty wrecks, and the other ones just race really crappy from Dover till Homestead. What happens to the guy in 11th? He stays in 11th, even though he probably accumulated more points then the others because of their finishes.......
Ok, rant over.
