I found new Mesh for Europe the other day. I install in i the World folder in the scenery folder and when I flew over Erurope to test it. I could hardly see any difference in the look of the new scenery.

Did I do it the right way or is there any other way of doing this?

Help appreciated.

Another question, is there a city of Rome in Italy. Because I flew over the Western part of Italy and I could not find Rome.

Thank you

Hagar thank you for answering my question. But what I really asking was about Mesh and not about installing new sceneries.

I got some new Mesh for Europe from Simnnet and I istall them at the world folder/Scenery folder. I saw no difference in the European scenery.

I wonder if I did it right?

I don't know the mesh you're talking about. Mesh is no different from any other scenery & installation is exactly the same. The method described in my tute always worked for me.

PS. Providing addon scenery is configured correctly it makes no difference where you install it - as long as you know where it is. Then you can activate from the Scenery Library in the usual way.

Hagar's right.......as usual!!  Grin Wink

Here's how I did mesh for CFS2. In my MAIN Scenery folder I made a folder called Mesh. Before I put anything in there, I would test my new mesh out by making it's own folder. Name it what you like. Inside any of those folders would be a scenery and texture folder. Texture folder might be empty, scenery folder would contain the .bgls. After I tested the mesh, I would then put it in my Main Mesh folder within the CFS2/Scenery folder. As always, you have to "Activate" new scenery you added and "Deactivate" scenery you are removing.

I also had other Main folders in my CFS2 Scenery folder,.....
USA, Europe, Asia etc.

Easier, for me anyway, to keep track of things.

Everyone has their own favourite methods. I just bung all my addon scenery in the CFS2\Addon folder as described in my Scenery Clinic. That's what I assume it's there for. Then I know exactly where it is. Saves all that messing around. Wink

First of all I want to thank both of you for your input on this question I have.

Now my next question is how many new sceneries can I add to the program before it start to effect its performance.

Another question is if I add a new scenery will show up in the MB when I fly a mission over it.

Will it only show up for free flight and quick action only.

I now this are basic question , but I do not now the answer.

I have been under the impression that they only work on this two format.

Your input will be appreciated.

Thank you

Hi James. Once the scenery is installed & activated it will display in Free Flight, Quick Combat & Missions/Campaigns. I already showed you how to add airfields & areas outside the default theatre to the Misson Builder database. There is a limit to the number of scenery areas you can activate separately but I forget what that is. Fireman might be able to tell you but I've never had enough scenery installed to find out. This can be overcome by combining several different areas into one. For example: If you have a lot of different mesh scenery areas installed & activated separately, these could all be combined into one area named Mesh. You would need to do this carefully & delete any separate areas from the Scenery Library first. Before combining scenery areas in this way I suggest activating each new area separately & trying it to make sure it doesn't conflict with other areas.

PS. Once a scenery area like the Mesh folder has been activated from the Scenery Library you can add or remove BGL files & textures at will. This will display when you next fire up the sim without needing to reactivate it.

I don't know the exact amount Hagar, and I have tons of extra scenery added. The difference being, I only have to ACTIVATE 4 or 5 Main folders as I described earlier. So I never reach the Max. In the beginning, I was adding scenery seperately, thier own folders etc. I got up there pretty high in the Scenery Library list. After talking to you on various subjects, reading your excellant tutorials,........I re-did all my addon scenery. Like you said, don't matter where you put scenery, as long as you direct the library to it's location correctly.

So the choice is yours james. I do strongly suggest that you test any new scenery in it's' own folder before you dump into any main folder you create. There has been some, although few, sceneries that I had problemswith that I got rid of. If it tests good, deactivate it, remove it via the library. Take the files and move them to where and how you like. If you add any scenery to an existing folder that is already activated in the Scenery Library, there is no problem there. But I would, and experience and thoughts by others have led me to this conclusion, delete the filelist.dat file. CFS2 will rebuild the database. This precludes any problems you could incur if CFS2 doesn't, for some reason, rebuild the database as it is suppose to even if you don't delete it. Most of the time it will, but like I said before............   I always delete the fileslist.dat that is in the folder I add my scenery to.  IF you are just dumping bgls into an already existing scenery sub folder, USA for example, then you will see a filelist.dat file among all those existing bgls. Delete that one then. It will rebuild when you fire up the game again.

Hagar explains the way you have to do some editing ONLY if you want to use that scenery in Mission Builder. Otherwise, if it is activated in the Library, you will see it whether in free flight, quick combat, campaign and even in multiplayer.

You don't want the scenery loading up when you start the game 'cause you are not going to be flying there anyway??........Just uncheck the box that contains that scenery in the Library. I might uncheck Pacific scenery as it is huge for me, because I am only going to be flying in Euro for awhile.

You do as you wish, this info is just that, info for you to choose and pick what works best for you. But always glean the Must Do's and Must Not Do's from any doc. or info.  Hagar knows those real good. Most of the ones I learned are from him or my own oooopsies, stupid me's!!!

I've learned alot over the years from this bunch. This thread is one of the biggest reasons CFS2 is still one of my favs. The ability to add mesh and new textures and sceneries to the WHOLE WORLD. I can fly in any theatre I want. What were they thinking to drop that aspect in CFS 3?
