HI All ,
That Howard 500 is just magnificent !! I am wondering if the landing lights retract ? I think it may also have wing ice lights , but I have not seen them .
I love to watch ( and hear ) the engines start from outside and should have about worn the starters out by now !! HA !!
Thanks ,
Jamie

HI Dan ,
Do your self a big favor and get that plane . It is a real PRIZE ! I had trouble opening the curtains in the virtual cabin at first , but you hit shift+e and release and then hit 2 . It is a little tricky sometimes .
Thanks ,
Jamie

Hi,
Have just downloaded the Howard 500 (for fs9 though) & i've just got to say what an absolutely amazing piece of freeware kit it is.
I urge anyone who likes their vintage props to download this plane
- you won't be dissapointed!!! The cockpit is (in my opinion) almost up to M$ standard & also has some features which the default cockpits lack (you can even switch to the co-pilots seat with a simple click of a switch) & as Jamie said, the engines sound absolutely amazing (watching them start up is pure joy - brilliant).
The download file even comes with it's very own 'set up wizard' that will install the plane into fs9 for you (in about 15 seconds!!) - so even if you've never even installed a new file before, you don't need to worry about the technicalities of adding new airplanes to your program files. The download will do it all for you.
Thanks to Jamie for making me decide to download it!!!!

Hi theysellcoke ,
I am absolutely delighted that you are delighted . It is really something to see how that model was made and is worthwhile visiting that Howard 500 site . It is truly a treasure !!
Another plane I have really enjoyed lately is the Convair 240 from California Classic Airliners . I used the Howard 500 sound and is marvelous . The wing and engine views are very real . I have experienced error reports when I try to shut down the sim so I go back to the 172 first . Certainly worth a glance if you have not seen it .
Curious how you got you name if you care to divulge what may be "classified " information !!??

lol, it's not classified, nor am I a 'cokehead' - It was just a 'play on words' for an email address (theysellcoke@msn.com), I don't think they actually do sell 'coke' at MSN & I can't believe that MSN have let me get away with what (i suppose) could be deemed to be slanderous!!!
I didn't mean it MSN - it was only a little joke.
PS: If anybody else wants to try it, then I believe that
'theysellheroin'
is also in use.

Yes the Howard 500, an incredibly beautiful airplane, I spent lots of time flying it. The cockpit is top notch, and those sounds are aboslutely droolable for. Oh and of course, the visual model is crazy! Supreme package overall...
Oh and theysellcoke, I love it that is awesome!
Pilot for a major US airline certified in the: EMB-120, CRJ, 727, 737, 757, 767, and A-320 and military, T-38, C-130, C-141, and C-5 along with misc. other small airplanes. Any questions, I'm here for you.

Hey everybody ,
I posed a couple of questions about the landing lights and ice lights and you are all so busy flying and enjoying the wonderful Howard 500 that nobody has time to answer my post !! HA !!
Actually , I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your nice comments and am glad I was instrumental in your getting that fantastic plane . I honestly thought everybody probably already had it . I had searched and searched for a Lockheed Lodestar for FS98 and found nothing . When I got FS2002 and discovered this Howard 500 , I could hardly believe what I had found .
I just e-mailed Milton Shupe and should have an answer about landing lights which I shall post it here . He is very good at responding .
I am so pleased that you all have appreciated it as much as do I .

Hi Jamie,
Your absolutely right - I totally forgot about the original question because i got caught up in the flying of the Howard 500, also I spent a lot of time emailing 'flying friends' & waxing lyrical about the virtues of the aforementioned 'beast'.
I'm not sure about the FS2002 version, but the FS9 version I am flying definately has retracting landing lights.
I also just assumed that everybody else in 'simworld' had downloaded it - don't know why, I just did.
Cheers, TSC.

OOOH no theysellcoke ,
This is far more than just a sim add on . I think it is REAL !!!!!!!! Heeee !!!! Surely does seem that way and is worthy of all of the Hooplah in my opinion .
My Mom keeps saying that the flight simulator is just a game , but we all know better don't we !!! I have mentioned this before , but My Mom really got concerned when she found me at my PC with a parachute on !!!!!!!!! Reckon I do have a " problem " ??
Sounds like I am just a little kid , but am a 67 yr. old one .

lol, i've lost count of the number of times i've had to correct friends/family when they say "how's your flying game", "It's not a game - it's a
simulator
thankyou very much".
I was at Exeter (UK) airport yesterday (my local) & some women was talking to me about flying (waiting for departures) & I had to stop myself from saying
"yeah, well, I fly out of here all the time - usually a Learjet or a Mooney Bravo - given todays wind direction you'll probably be going out on runway 26"
- NO, NO, STOP!!!! GET A GRIP 'COKE', IT'S ALL IN YA HEAD - MUPPET!!!!
It could've been a really sad & embarrasing situation, "Oh, your a pilot??" -
"Well, er, actually, erm - no."

Don't worry about the parachute - I saw a guy on t.v. who wears a FULL g-suit when he uses his F18 sim.
Cheers

Wow a full G-suit? Guy needs a hobby. Well another hobby that is.
Ahh imagine the possibilities. You're at the local airport talking to someone in the lobby.
"So you are a pilot?"
"Oh yeah, I can't count the times I've done rolls in the Concorde right above here."

You know when you have spent too long simming. It's when you go outside into daylight and find yourself thinking how realistic the clouds look...

hahahahahahahaha, well, the last time i counted it was 5 rolls above Exeter & 2 over Bournemouth.
But I didn't tell the woman that either.
The worst bit is that they have a bar in the 'viewing deck' there, god, imagine if i'd had a drink & my brain wasn't fully in gear - I could've made a right ar$e of myself just blabbing nonsensicle flying gibberish at the poor woman:
"Yeah, whats that luv? ATC? - nah, never use 'em, they're rubbish anyway."

lol. Gnome, that is the best answer I have ever heard, and so true.
well theysellcoke, I have had a minor run-in with my supervisor at the airline. I was talking to one of my copilots on a flight one day. We were flying in a 727 and I happened to be talking about a 727 I had been working on in the sim for a while, and commented I had flown under the Golden Gate bridge as a practical joke for my weekend flying buddies. Well about a week later, we were all having drinks before a long weekend and he told my supervisor the story, but apparently left out the "flight sim" factor. My supervisor about had a heart attack thinking I had taken a company 727 under the Golden Gate for S's and G's. Quite amusing to see the look on his face after I told him it was all a game.

Goodness ! I don't know when I have enjoyed reading comments in the forum this much . That ' theysellcoke ' is certainly articulate and the 'thoughts' at the airport are so funny . Saratoga is hilarious , not to mention Gnome and the rest . Really hit home when I recall in the beginning how I thought my eyes were getting bad because I had to keep turning up the brrightness on my monitor . I had flown all night and was dawn !!!
I used to look through the forum for information , but now I use it for entertainment as well and speaking of entertainment ------
I was just attempting to record a flight in the Howard for theysellcoke so he could see that I had sort of learned to fly that big bird . Perhaps the 20th. try ??????
