Are you using the jets or the smaller props? I'm currently going through RW VOR training right now, and I can tell you it's much more complicated in a prop. I'm sure the tutorial Bourg gave you will help-but lemme give you a crash course.
There is no VOR "equipment", per say, you use your Nav radios to "tune" a VOR. VOR stands for Very Omnidirectional beacon, transmits a signals 1 degree apart (making a 360 degree circle) and is recieved on your Nav1 or Nav2 radios (Nav2 ONLY on jets). When you tune a VOR frequency, you are picking up that stations signal, you are not "enabling" anything.
As for the frequencies, you're probably gonna have to go to the map view because I don't think you can get the freqs off the GPS module.
As for how to actually use VORs, I'm not going to confuse you by trying to explain it in words, because it really does have to be demonstrated (believe me I know

). Your best bet is to try online tutorials with pictures, and/or to fly the lessons. Good luck
