The B-52 will probably go down as the champion of "hanging around" long after it's supposed demise.

Some of the current plans show the '52 still in service as much as 100 years after it's prototype first flew!

But thats different. The B52's arn't the same ones as were made in the 50's and 60's. The Canberra's are. Grin

The last B-52 (new) production was in 1962.

No challenge from me, there.  The only question is - which mark is the best looking of all!

Probably on of the early ones. The RAF T4 in the Prototype colours was nice (this is now the only T4 the RAF has servicable after the tragic crash at Marham in Septamber)...

My favourite was always the "big wing" RB-57D.

Agreed. Much like my feelings for the clipped & extended wing variants of the Spitfire. Roll Eyes

I always found it strange that the original Canberra's low aspect-ratio wing was very efficient at high altitude.  Contrary to what I would expect there was nothing in the world to touch it at the time. I was reading that RAF Canberras were flying unofficial & very hush-hush recon missions over the USSR long before the RB-57 or U-2 were available.

The original Canberra was a great plane for altitude...but the threat developed and something more was needed, enter the RB-57.

I can't support any Avon engined variant of the Canberra for a simple reason...cartridge start. I hated even being around the things...just the idea gives me the willies. Smiley

Maybe a little OT, but the Lockheed C-130 has been in production for 50 years and still going strong.
