THIS IS A TRUE STORY.
I do not want to insult anyone chineese by this post. (as a matter of fact, I admire chineese for their ability to concentrate!)

My dad was on a business trip to the People's Republic of China. He took the Aeroflot flight to Peking and then boarder some no-frills carrier for a flight to Gansu Province.

Onboard, everyone sat down and the plane started to taxi. After 5 minutes of taxiing (and no safety demo) an elderly american lady asked a young female flight attendant very politely,"Excuse me, why aren't you showing us the safety demonstration?"

The flight attendant looked at the elderly lady and said (with a HEAVY Chineese accent)
"Lady, You in China! If plane crashes - You Die!" and walks away.

When you ASSUME, you make an ASS out of U and ME.

lol, no offense taken, I realize your intent was to make people laugh...

though their apparent disconcern for the safety of their passengers makes me very wary of flying into china anytime soon! Smiley

that reminds me of something I saw on Americas Funniest Videos that wasnt funny at all. It was a shot out the window of a passenger jet that showed bolts vibrating loose from the part of the wing that holds the engine (dont know what its called, not into airliners), and a few of them had already fallen out. Oh and how the audience laughed... idiots Undecided

I remember my flight from paris.  I was seated near the wing, so i could see the flaps.  I remember an approximatelly foot long piece of rubber hanging from the wing and dancing in the air.  Well all 8 hours of flight i was looking at that piece of rubber waiting for something to happen.  nothing did.

I was flying on an Alaska 737-200 series aircraft from Anchorage to Seattle once. That was one of the most entertaining flights in a jet aircraft (jets are not as fun as cabin class twins). Not only was the day beautiful, but the oil streaming from the number 2 engine was coming out about the speed that I pee (for lack of better description). I got lucky that trip and got the window seat about 3 seats behind the trailing edge of the wing (my favorite place, I can see the engine and all the control surfaces, and some ground too). I showed my father, and we agreed not to tell my mother...... After we landed, I let the flight crew know that they should check the oil cap and inspect the left engine for oil leaks.

It was clean oil, and it was coming from the top of the naccell, so I asume it was a pressure leak from the system, not the engine.

That flight attendant was probably telling the truth. The Chinese tend to have a more philosophical way of looking at things than us mollycoddled lot in the West.

I agree.  Flying is the safest form of travel as it rarely goes wrong, when it does you are more than likely to be history.  Providing life jackets to people who have hit the water at 500kts+ in a disintergrating 747 is as sensible as giving a decapitated corpse mouth to mouth imho.

Who switched the lights off?  I can't see a thing.......  Hold on, my eyes were closed.  Oops, my bad...............&&...

Haha. I can releate to that since I flew into China last May. Very fun time, and we flew on some pretty good carriers. China Eastern and China Southern.

Nice joke! Grin Grin

Hmm...could be 'pylon'.

...&&It is better to remain silent and be considered a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.&&&&There were once four people named Everybody, Somebody, Nobody and Anybody. Somebody had to do a job, but Nobody wanted to do it. Nobody could see that Anybody could do it, and Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job. Nobody ended up doing it, and it so happened that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

That Chinese flight attendant's attitude may seem irresponsible, but most people ignore the safety briefing anyway, and in the event of an emergency, whatever they heard is forgotten as everyone panics. The hardest part of any attendant's career is dealing with the mayhem when that happens. Many airline fatalities are related to very survivable accidents where people die from smoke or fire because they freak out.
My M.O. with commercial flights is to always reserve a seat just behind the wing (most likely to survive in a crash) and  note the location of the exits .I find the  one with the most competent and/or fit-looking  people sitting near it, and  if we overrun or crash or whatever, I'm going out that door. Period. I'll even take a sec to make sure I can find it in the dark or in smoke ("four rows, turn left", or whatever). It's a damned good idea to read the directions on how to open said door, also...don't wait till there's a fire, and everybody's  trying to get out at the same time.
