Aircraft #700...not only is this aicraft special to the company (first 737-700 delivered to the company) but I hold some sentimental attachment to it as well... Grin Grin 8)

Another one of Southwest's special paint schemes, "Arizona One"!

Hope you enjoyed.  Don't have TOO much time out there to take pictures.  But I always carry my camera in my locker...

impressive. I wouldnt boo AA though, they might eat up one of your 737's in those massive 777 engines:) and they really are large enough.
Great shots, glad you take some time out of your day to bring us these.

Awesome shots!

Just wondering -- given the hyper-security these days, could one get into trouble for taking pictures like these? (Even if one works at an airport ... presumably you do!)

I don't know about getting in trouble.  I think it depends on the airport.  I have heard mixed things from various airports.  I haven't been told I can't.  One day, I even drove out to the middle of the tarmac near the service road that runs parallel to a taxi-way and just sat there taking pics with a co-worker.  A cop drove by multiple times and never came over to stop us.

I go to a local airport and take pictures...I can get about 75 yards from the runway...no heavies though, mainly CRJ's, an ERJ from Newerk and a DC9 from KDET...

Not that I'd wish trouble on a fellow SimVer, but it bothers me a bit that he didn't at least confirm you were a legitimate employee and leave you to it...   also, I'd check the employee handbook for any mention of taking pictures, just to cover my keister, if I were you. Someday some hard-on might decide to nail you for that, if it's officially a no-no. That's a cool job you've got- be a shame to lose it over a (politically sensitive) technicality. Thanks for the pics, BTW...

Another BTW:I'm curious;  what's your next move- flying? A&P? Management? Something completely different? Or are you content  (can't say I'd fault you for that)?

Well all the Cop has to do is confirm that we are wearing our airport security badges.  We are required to make sure they are visible.  So as long as he saw us with our badges, there's nothing to challenge.

I can't see it being a problem.  Our operations room is filled with pictures from the ramp so I'm not the only employee that has taken pictures out there.  I don't do it all the time and I do try to stay low.  But yeah there have been quite a few pictures taken from the same areas.  I even know of instances where someone was escorted out there and grabbed a few pics.  There are a few at airliners.net.

Thanks for your concern though.   Smiley

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do.  All I know is I have options, and a lot of freedom to move around in the company.  Right now all I'm concerned with is passing my 6 month probation period.  Almost 4 months completed.  After that, I can relax and begin having more of a life outside the job.  Right now I'm just saving my money.  As of right now, I still want to be a pilot, but because of how slow thats been going, and the fact I'm only getting older...and the looooooooooooooooooooooooooong expensive road I have ahead of me, I've been reevaluating my situation.  A&P is another option I've looked at.  A couple new hires hired with me have their A&P liscence and are just on the ramp to get their foot in the door which is a great idea.  Especially since Southwest offers apprenticeships to A&Ps' who lack the experience as a way to gain the necessary experience.  So we will see.  Heck, I'm young enough that if I stick with the Ramp, after some years under my belt, I can have a decent life making a decent living just staying there.  Southwest does have rampers that are millionaires.  So if I play my cards right, not sure I will necessarily become a millionaire, but I can sure make out fairly well.  All I know is I am having a lot of fun out there and a fun job makes working as much as I do a LOT easier.  We will see.  I haven't even been there 6 months yet and after 6 months, I will have the freedom to do what I want as far as looking into other areas of work within the airline.

By the way.  I find this rather funny.  When I first announced to you guys that I got the job, many of you said you'd be looking forward to pictures LOL.  I was concerned at the time about getting the opportunity to take pics out there, and I was concerned about getting in trouble.  Now I bring you guys pics, and now YOU are the ones concerned LOL.  How ironic!!   Tongue
