11.   "Parachute" ordinance type.....
eg load up your C-47 with paratroopers and drop at required point
eg carry out biscuit bombing in PNG...
eg Drop an airborne lifeboat to downed aircrew.

12.  "Glider Tow" - ability to tow / be towed .... (even swap from one to the other aka CFS3 move to gunner position until relaese). ... Arnhem here we come....

There is no & will be no CFS4 so its all pointless unless you post to a CFS3 site that the 3rd party developers use to see if your list can be added to CFS3.

They won't release the code to CFS2. It's basically the same code they're still using for FS9 etc. So they won't release it intill they stop using it. Tongue

Bear I would disagree with you most heartly. Their is no reason why we should ask CFS3 developers when CFS2 have very capable developers of their own. Thats very insulting if you ask me.

While CFS3 is a nice Simulator it also a very limit one. I doubt that getting the code will make it possible for developers in incorporate a world map into it.

The developement of CFS2 is much greater than CFS3 as ever acheived.

Now with Stiz Texures CFS2 sceneries are almost as good as CFS3.

You will get more planes ,Theaters of war, and more possibilities with CFS2 than you ever get with CFS3.

Iam sorry but MS missed the mark with CFS3 and I hope they make up to us by giving us  the code for CFS2.

Bear I know you love the European Theater of war. But I rather have the whole war Simulated than just one Theater of war.

I beleive Iam not alone in this sentiment. Why do you think more people who have the Pacific Fighter program  merge with the Forgotten ace Package than the stand alone version. Its because most people I beleive want the different experience from differrent Theaters of war.

Would it not be nice to deffend Midway one day and going escort B17s over Berlin on next following day. Thats simply not possible with CFS3.

No CFS3 was developed to represent one Theater and that was great disappoinment. After giving us the possibility of making missions and campaigns all over the world its not possible to make me happy with one Thearter alone.  It does not matter weather it be the Pacific or the European theater.

If MS want to make us happy I hope they give us the code for CFS2.

I do like CFS3 but CFS2 is simply better.

Thankyou

As I said. Because it's basically the same code as they're using with FS9 and no doubt will use for FS10.

>>>Their is no reason why we should ask CFS3 developers when CFS2 have very capable developers of their own. Thats very insulting if you ask me. <<<

Really, since AvHistory developed over 100 CFS2 aircraft, including 90 distinct machine guns & cannon, and over 100 distinct aircraft engines should I also be insulted by myself  Grin

>>>Now with Stiz Texures CFS2 sceneries are almost as good as CFS3.<<<

And Winding Mans CFS3 scenery pack is a considerable improvement over CFS3 stock.

>>>You will get more planes ,Theaters of war, and more possibilities with CFS2 than you ever get with CFS3.<<<

I could be mistaken but it seems to me most of the main CFS2 aircraft developers are now working in CFS3.  While there is no world map the CFS3 Korean & Med theaters are doing just fine.

CFS2 can run on my computer with good frame rates (over 50) whislt CFS3 struggles to get 30fps so i'm sticking with CFS2 for a long time yet and thats why they should realese the code  Tongue selfish i know but they shoulda made CFS3 better  Grin

>>>CFS2 can run on my computer with good frame rates.....but they shoulda made CFS3 better<<<

Interesting comment CFS2 is better because it runs on a slower machine.

By extending that logic Chuck Yeager's Air Combat should be at or very near the top of the list in current "best" flight sims as it runs very well on a 486/33 with 4MB of system memory & 256k of video memory.  Wink

Then of course CFS should be better then CFS2 because it also requires less resources (hold on that battle was fought years ago) to get the same frame rates.

Y'all have to go with what the machine will support so that might make CFS2 'better' for you but that does not qualify it as being better overall.

Could be each step-up in hardware requirements is due to the fact that each game has brought something new to the table.

One of the guys talked about a B-17 mission in this thread.  In CFS2 y'all can fly a B-17E like the AvHistory Typhoon McGoon III or in CFS3 not only fly AvHistory's B-17G Molly II but also man the co-pilot, bombardier station or any of 9 gun stations.

To make this happen Molly II has the equivalent of 12 CFS2 cockpits, if they were 3D, to cover all of the crew positions.

In CFS3 you can always do something simple like roll a natural skinned aircraft like the P-47 in the avi and watch the real-time reflections move on the planes skin.

http://www.avhistory.org/movies/p47ref.avi

Some thing's that do not happen in CFS2 & some things that take more computer power.

Then your mileage may vary.

Good point but CFS3 dosen't "feel" that real to me. Even with WMs scenery and Fox's effects etc. CFS2 has the feel of what it might have been like in WW2....WW1...Korea etc. Also dare i say it.......CFS2 has more...depth...then CFS3.

I can aggree that in 2-4 years time CFS3 will be a smashing sim but not at this present moment in time.

Guess its just a matter of opion though.

Av Bear you are right about you been a mainly a European Theaeter fan. That was very pretencious of my part. To me your Father is a Hero like all veterans who serve in World war two. Its just that this is mostly a program dedicated to the European Theater and the rest of us who like to fly in different thearters would be short change with CFS3 and when it comes to this matter.

You did bring some good points. I also appreciate what you have done for CFS2 and 3. The quality for you planes have greatly inhence the enjoyment of both porgrams for us. Thankyou

Even dow CFS3 has more potential than CFS2. It still came short of what I was looking from follow up of CFS2.

I always wanted a Simulator that represented the whole war. CFS2 gives us that option.

It would take a lot work from our part but its possible. It also feels more realistic when flying a mission in CFS2 than CFS3.

The movement in air are more realistic and gives you a more immersing feel to it.

CFS3 does have many good points . I realize that and I have to agree with you with many of the points you express in your previous post.

For example in CFS3 you can change the skin of your planes. Thats a cool featrure. The outside view of the planes are the best in the CFS series.

For ground attacks nothing beats it. Not even the UBI series. The sceneries third demention view are the very best available of any Combat flight Simulator in the Market today.

It also has very annoying features. Like zooming or expanding the exterior view of your plane. Instead of expanding or contracting the scenery view. The plane only gets bigger or smaller while the scenery stays the same size.

Another is restricting your vitual view depending on your experience in flying in the game. That should be done only thru the players own ability to view things. Now thats annoying.

I still like the game and have every Intention to flying with it for a long time.I beleive as more improvement it gets from the  developers the better it will get.

To me its like the tower of Pisa. Uneven and almost falling but still a beautiful stucture to see. I wish I could visit it soon.

Now enough about this CFS2 vs CFS 3 debate. They are both great Simulators. Lets just enjoy them both. If you fly one it does not mean you cannot fly in the other.

Lets join forces and try to make them the best Simulators ever for the benefit off all.

I beleive in free Speach. We all express our opinions. Lets coaperate this each other.

Thankyou

CFS3 has always looked awful on my system.  I can barely run it at 800X600 16Bit and then I get choppy frame rates and mini-freezes when I fire my guns.

I need a new system lol.

CFS2 on the other hand has an annoying mission system in that if you fail to shoot down a ridiculous number of enemy A/C you fail the mission.  You have to perfom like David McCampbell (USN Ret) on a good day everytime you take off.  The CFS3 system is far better in that your Wingmens victories count towards mission goals.

What I would like to see for CFS4 is the entire world modelled like the FS world.  You select the date and the combat type is adjusted by the date.  It would cover from the first military a/c in about 1912 up to modern computer controlled systems.  Using the CFS3 campaign system it would be easier to simulate Pattons assault on Soviet Russia in 1945, or the aftermath of the nuclear conflict in Korea in 1955.

No you can't... You can change Unit Markings and Nose Art Tongue

If you want different skins, then it's exactly like CFS2 in that you need to create them yourself!

I don't know about that, just take a look through the CFS2 Aircraft Downloads section here and at the Outhouse and you'll see what I mean. Besides, the fishbowl view can be irritating at times, but don't get me wrong, I still play CFS3 from time to time, but my first love as far as Combat Flight Sims go will always be CFS2.

Edit: Just for the fun of it...

Here are some shots of the P-51D Mustang from World War II Fighters, a game that was released in 1998. Would anybody like to post some shots of the default CFS3 P-51D Mustang?

This might be of interest.

http://www.medairwar.com

Will Hunter speaking of the MAW project:

Oh, it is much, much more than an addon. It is a whole new combat flight sim. A stand alone, separate installation to your original ETO CFS3. A completely new theatre and that already looks far superior to the old CFS3 scenery. Some of the best quality 3D Max modellers in the world are building for it. I reckon at the time of release there will be fifty or more new aircraft, at least. All of them will have the lastest upgraded 1% flight dynamics and damage models from those 'experten' at AvHistory.

Fox is making the best visual FX I've ever seen. You should see his sand storms!

At the moment there are lots of ground facilities appearing. Many realistic buildings and even stuff like Bedouin tents with rugs. I've seen pictures of The Grand Harbour at Valetta in Malta that are mouth watering.

There will be flocks of birds in MAW. Soldiers in shorts rolling cigarettes, fighting battles, dropping by parachute out of Ju52s or Dakotas. Male and female civilians walking around, carts pulled by donkeys and horses, mules working treadmills. Farms with cows, (Frisian breed in Southern Europe, Kuri longhorn breed in North Africa) sheep, pigs, goats, wells, windmills, people riding bicycles and motor bikes, driving trucks, cars, tanks which the player will be able to drive as well. You will be able to 'drive' British, German, Italian, and American motor torpedo boats and fight battles on the Mediterranean Sea with torps, depth charges and guns. Yep, you can even try and sink the submarines! (Thanks to Greg Law who has already contributed an extraordinary amount of of things for MAW and just keeps 'pulling more and more rabbits out of his hat'.

Hopefully we'll be able to get farm animals animated so they will scatter like real livestock if you fly low over their paddocks. Maybe we'll get Guy (Fox) to make a dung FX so the cattle can raise their tails drop a load every so often!

All the new aircraft are a quantum leap forward from most of what has so far appeared. Excellent virtual cockpits, turrets, and other interiors. Recently saw a screenie looking down the insides of a Savioa-Marchetti SM79 fuselage with two waist gunners bashing away at Hurricanes or Gladiators. Gee, it looked great. We have a sizable collection in our Italian contingent who are doing some incredibly beautiful looking Regia Aeronautica aircraft, ships and many other details.

The Hurricanes are looking totally fantastic now. They have undergone an amazing evolution. Originally started by Partrick Didier. Then worked on by Mathias - new virtual cockpit. Winjeel took it over then and remodelled the wings so they look right. Leading edges fixed up and modeled landing lights. Winjeel has also produced Sea Hurricanes with animated landing hooks.

You'll see every version of Hurricane ever used in the Med, even the Mk.IID 'Tin Opener' with 40mm Vickers 'S' guns. Bravo 4 has been pouring out some of the best and most realistic skins I've ever seen for all these Hurris.

Ed Wilson has done some amazing looking P-40s, Steve Sybolt's got Stukas and lot's of other great stuff - armoured vehicles, PT boats, Dorniers and more. Fantastic Messerschmitts and Focke-Wulfs all new, Josh's done some new tropical Spits and Sea Spits. There are lots and lots of other things. Some I'm not even allowed to mention because we want to give people a few surprises.

I know that it's difficult to wait on something like this but it's a gigantic project and even with the forty or so people on the Desert Rats team working away madly on it, this kind of thing takes time. I'm sure you'll get your 'hot little hands' on it this year but it is silly for me to make an estimate as none of us really know ourselves. People are coming up with new ideas all the time.

Believe me, you won't be disappointed. Just be patient.

Will.

Mathias what type of campaign does it comes with. Is it going to bee a linkage campaing or will come with a  Dynamic format.

If its Dynamic will it follow the CFS3 format of Hypothetic type or is going to be base on Historical line. I prefer the Historical leneage format than a Hypothetical one where everything you do thru your mission will decide the future of your campaign. I hope it bring both type of campaigns.

How many planes will it bring. Will their be a Italian Language package included. Will it include the whole Mediterranean Campaign.

When will it be release.

Hi James,
There'll be in any case several linkage campaigns covering greece, crete, malta, north africa, italy and so forth.
Dynamic campaign will be in, too, just don't ask me in how far we can overcome CFS3 limitations as I'm not the mission maker.
As for the map, just have a look at http://www.medairwar.com/ .
Operation torch will probably be a bit tricky as we have just the eastern bounds of tunisia in, everything else relevant to the theathre should be fully supported though.

There'll be many new planes, LOL.

Looks positive on an italian voicepack.
We have all the tools needed to do that thanks to MS supporting the project.

No release date as of yet, targeting for this year though, LOL

LOL, he just said he would better have the CFS3 code than the CFS2 code, what on earth is insulting on it?
Been developing for CFS2 for years and can tell with some savety that each new groundcrew release has raised the bar for the others to follow Cheesy
We made the switch to CFS3 when it was released because it's the better render engine, the better combat engine and the better flight model engine and it has better SDK support than CFS2 will ever have.
So saying releasing the code for CFS2 is insulting to CFS3 modellers, following your logic? LOL!

Bombardier101,

>>>>I agree with you, I'm a CFS2 developer myself, that is insulting<<<<

I have listed below the original Desert Rats, none of whom were insulted by my comment that CFS3 is better software to work with.  8)

Additionally, 100% of whom have also made very significant contributions to CFS2 both freeware & payware,  many since well before it was ever released to the public.

Rick (RCAF_Gunner) Rutherford
John (johno_UK) Benfield
Alessandro (ALX) Biagi
Spencer (Green Day Rocks 2) Carter
Giovanni (Nanni) Cignoni
Pete (Simviation) Daly
Sterling (Dakota) Dedic

AvHistory Iam not that sensitive about you comment about your desire on wether you thought the code should release for the CFS3 instead of CFS2. That would be silly . Its only a opinion and everyone has the right to their opinion. What bother me is you insinuation that since their probably wont be a development of CFS4. We should send all our request  wishes to  the CFS3  developers.

In other words we should substitude CFS2 for CFS3. Make all our request to CFS3 developers and make CFS3 into our own CFS4.

Now I thought that was a Insult to come to the CFS2 forum and tell every member to abadon CFS2 for CFS3.

Iam sorry as good as CFS3 is. It will never replace CFS2. Maybe just maybe we member of the CFS2 forum would like to convert CFS2 into CFS4 instead.

The thing that bother me about you is not that you promote CFS3 but that you and Mathias never admit that CFS3 has many short commings as well.

I understand that that in many ways CFS3 is a better program but to say that is completely superior is nonsense.

With out CFS2 we would not have the Best Simulator representing the Pacific Theater period. While the Pacific Fighter is a dandy of a program is still incomplete and with the help of the CFS2 developers CFS2 is still better. I will not give up CFS2 for the Pacific Fighter program at this time.

Where can we Simulate World war one or the Spanish Civil war. Perhaps create our own Easter Front Theater from the Polish campaign to Berlin 1945.

We now can recreate the Night Bombing by the  British Bomber Command with the help of Stiz Sceneries and search lights soon to be available.

Can you claim to have build basically all the Significant planes involve in World two . I guess not.

Were is the World map were I can place the few Russian and Japanese planes available for CFS3.

You say the flight Models are better . I defer from that comment. I have flown Cfs2 and CFS3 and the planes feel more real than they ever felt in CFS3. Beside if you look at the planes from the exterior view. They look like they are been flown from strings like puppet plane instead of looking they are actualy flying. I now you guys are never going to be objective and will never admit to this and other weakness. But thats the way they look. Not very real.

I admit CFS2 has many short commings. Like for example no Mutiple Languages program has ever been develope for it. Maybe instead of critizing this program you should  help us in this matter. Another is our inability to use the Bomber turrents guns. Their not enough Bombsights to acomodate all the Bombers available.

This are just a few examples of its short commings. But overall CFS3 cannot and will not replace all of what CFS2 can do for the World two combat Simulator world.

They are both different and good Simulator. Just accept it . It would be better for us to join forces instead and try to make both this wonderful Simulator better.

I fly them both and I love them because they give me a different feeling whenever I fligh in them.

I hope you do not get offended by what I have said about CFS3.

You guys have done a wonderful job with both Simulator and hope you will continue. I appreciate all your good work. Thank for everything.

Thank you

James, Simulators are like woman, you either like them or you don't, debatting that is academical Smiley
BTW, it's not quite fair to say I would not see the bugs in "3", that's just not true. I'm no blind idiot you know? Wink
Bear's commends on CFS4 being based on 3 is not just hypotetical past time talk, it's based on reality.
We've both been in the projected CFS4 beta tester team and what we've been allowed to see from "4" (based on the CFS3 engine with numerous bug fixes and feature improvements) before they pulled the plug on it was truely stunning.
Your commends on the CFS2 v. CFS3 flight models is plain nonsense unless you believe the FS2000 flight engine is superior to the FS2002 engine.
Not talking about subjective "how does it feel" impressions but about underlaying code.
I agree the stock flightmodels have a strange gamey "feel", (although the profs say they are closer to the numbers than the stock CFS2 birds but who is flying stock anyway huh?
Thought you know that Smiley
Telling what has and what has not been developed in 5 years of CFS2 is an indicator for what?
BTW, as I've pointed out before (and Bear too) we both had our fair amount of contribution to "2" as well if you bother to remember (for the case you where allready around back then), quite a couple of the CFS2 third party planes come from our hangars, you know, so your rant goes really towards the wrong adress.Wink

>>>What bother me is you insinuation that since their probably wont be a development of CFS4. We should send all our request  wishes to  the CFS3  developers.<<<

Its not an insinuation - its a fact, there will be NO CFS4.  Its cancelled and a lot of the development guys are no longer on the payroll & the rest are doing other things.

That being said had there been a CFS4 released its was to a build on of CFS3 which got as far as an pre alpha build.  Last time I posted any screen shots I got my wrist slapped so y'all will have to take my word for it or track down some old forum messages. 8)

If you want a CFS4 look a like if would logically have to be built on the platform that CFS4 was being built on CFS3 not CFS2

>>>In other words we should substitude CFS2 for CFS3. Make all our request to CFS3 developers and make CFS3 into our own CFS4. Now I thought that was a Insult <<<

Whatever - as I said anytime you post to a forum somebody looking to get insulted will find something to get insulted about. Sad

But the thing is CFS4 was basically CFS3 + new stuff not CFS2 + new stuff.

>>>It will never replace CFS2. Maybe just maybe we member of the CFS2 forum would like to convert CFS2 into CFS4 instead.<<<

See above & good luck in you quest.  Its interesting to note that your arguments read like they were copied from the CFS2 sucks - CFS1 forever threads of 5 years or so back.

>>>The thing that bother me about you is not that you promote CFS3 but that you and Mathias never admit that CFS3 has many short commings as well.<<<

If CFS3 did not have faults we would not be in the business of improving it - then again if CFS2 did not have faults we would not have been in the business of improving it either.

Many of us have flight sim experience going back well over 15 years & every time a new sim comes out its the same old story.  But guess what each one has faded out at some point in time & new ones have replaced them.

The guys who have a problem with that are generally short on the hardware curve.

>>>I understand that that in many ways CFS3 is a better program but to say that is completely superior is nonsense.<<<

If you say do.

>>> I will not give up CFS2 for the Pacific Fighter program at this time.<<<

I am sure the Pacific Fighters guys are very sad to hear that Grin

>>>Where can we Simulate World war one or the Spanish Civil war. Perhaps create our own Easter Front Theater from the Polish campaign to Berlin 1945.<<<

Have y'all seen the CFS3 WWI terrain including buildings, trenches, no mans land & aircraft in the "OFF" add-on

...

...

...

...

I would put some shots up of the "Dogpatch" guys Korean war theater add-on including Sabers, Migs, Spads & Yaks but this post is pretty long now.

Come to think of it even though they served in Korea I don't think the Spads were called Spads till Viet Nam.  Another theater? Wink

>>>We now can recreate the Night Bombing by the  British Bomber Command with the help of Stiz Sceneries and search lights soon to be available.<<<

Nice to hear - Mathias developed CFS3 search-lights last year.

>>>Can you claim to have build basically all the Significant planes involve in World two . I guess not.<<<

All? - nope, not all - Over 100 of them so far?  Yes

>>>Were is the World map were I can place the few Russian and Japanese planes available for CFS3.<<<

As you know there & as I have stated before is no world map for CFS3.

There are more then a few Japanese & Russian aircraft available.  Our modest site has 11 by itself. There is even a nice collection of Italian aircraft on our site; 8 or 9 if memory serves

>>>You say the flight Models are better . I defer from that comment. I have flown Cfs2 and CFS3 and the planes feel more real than they ever felt in CFS3.<<<

I would just have to respectfully say that y'all don't have a clue about evaluating flight models & leave it at that.

Well maybe just one more thing, I would also categorically state y'all do not have the tools available to determine what is happening inside the flight model real time which is required to do the analysis.

>>>This are just a few examples of its short commings. But overall CFS3 cannot and will not replace all of what CFS2 can do for the World two combat Simulator world.<<<

Y'all got a world map we have theater maps. Can't see what difference that makes unless you are going to bomb Tokyo from Archbury.

>>>>They are both different and good Simulator. Just accept it . It would be better for us to join forces instead and try to make both this wonderful Simulator better.<<<<

I missed the part where I said CFS2 was a bad simulator - what I said was CFS4 was to be an extension of CFS3 & I believe CFS3 is a better platform to developed a home made CFS4.  A lot of extremely talented former CFS2 developers agree with me.  Y'all seem to be the one with in denial.

Why would I get offended you are entitled to your opinion as am I.

Yep I agree. If they're not motivated to make a CFS4 then they won't make it, how 'bout a CFS4 combined out of the good things in all the CFSs and as many bad things removed as possible, and we should get the CFS1 and 2 designers onto it as well Shocked.

I think y'all are missing some of Mathias & my point.

CFS & CFS2 share the same basic game engine & have a lot of commonality in the fact you can put CFS planes into CFS2.  They tend to be a little over modeled when you do but they will fly in the game. You can use the same general tools to build planes for each

CFS3 has a new game engine & the aircraft are not compatible with CFS or CFS2.

Mathias put it pretty well...look at where CFS & CFS2 are after all these years of development by some pretty dedicated guys.  Most of the things you don't have, like usable gun turrets, you will never have because the CFS/CFS2 software just can't support them.

Hey Guys I'm sorry it took me a few days to repond . I was busy and I had my kids using the PC all the time.

First of all, I want to thank Mathias for his responese to my question on MAW. It would bee a shame Mathias if you  could not incorporate a Historical dynamic campaign into MAW.

AvBear that was a great post. Most of the things that you mention I already knew. Never the less some of the information was refreashing.

You now what I like about you is your Passion about this program. Its refreashing to see such passion.

I also want to thank all developers of all three CFS's. You guys have made all three games much more enjoyable for all of us.

Ever since I was a kid, I have been interested in World war two, Especially World war two Aviation. I use to have over 40 airplanes models. I had a model from every major participant of that war.

With time and the discovery of the Ladies, I donated them all to my church.

Thanks to this programs I have been able to relive my youth.

To answer Stratobat no I am not a developer. But I do have a passion for this hooby like you do. Unfortunualy I do not have the  talent to program PC like you guys have.

In Word war two most pilot dids not know how to fix mechanical problems with the planes they flew. Only the mechanics did. Together they became a team that won the war.

I do like progress Av Bear. I have never been against it . Thats like a refusing a raise in your Job. Its simply foolish.

What I meant and you should understand is that CFS2 give us a different flexability and feeling to our Sim experience than CFS3 can never give us.

You can say the same thing about CFS3. Yes CFS2 with all its limitations is ahead not quality but in quantative. Thats why a said CFS2 is simply Better at this time.

I have nothing against CFS3. Why should I. I do not beleive that any one Simulator can give us the total World war two experience.

They all have their short commings and virtual. I like to fly in several different ones for the different feeling they give me. I fly in EAW to CFS1 to CFS3. I have the whole IL-2 series. FB ACE PT as well. They are all excellent programs.

My feeling has always been that we all love World war aviation. Their should not be animosity between us.

I do not think Ubi is our enemy nor are we Theirs. I  have read many negative things said on their forum about CFS2 and 3.

PS I have always defended the developers of this programs in their forum.

I have read some in the in the CFS2 and 3 forum as well. If someone  thinks their program is better thats OK, lets just keep improving our programs.

AvBear keep developing CFS3 and lets continue improving CFS2 as well. Lets keep it a competative enviroment where we can improve our programs for the benefit of all.

Lets remember it was not the P51 that won the war over Europe. It was the P51 and the P47 that did it. Between them we won the war. The P51 had their quality and usefullness and the P47 had theirs. Between them they  made a unbeatable team.

Bombardier I highly recommend you buy CFS3 so you can increase your Sim experience. Its a very good program and especially after the improvements made by their developers. They are available in this and other Web sites. Their is no reason you can not  fly in both Simulators. It would only enrich your enjoyment.

Happy Hunting Guys

Thank you
James007

This is what i think:

CFS2 out of the box = arrg to bright i need shades.
CFS2 modded = A truly awesome flight sim

CFS3 out of the box = binned untill further notice
CSF3 modded = Yea getting better....slowly
MAW, OFF and a bit of CFS3 =  Shocked outsanding

Nobody likes what comes outa the box but when it's been modded to kindom com and back its great. Cfs2 has reached that stage where as CFS3 hasn't. Thus CFS2 is the better sim.......for now.......

Hi Stiz

CFS1 and 2 are like brothers. But CFS3 is an only child. No other combat sims are based on the CFS3 engine.

Sure, CFS3 might be good, with more features. But you can't import or export from it, so that's why CFS2 is usualy counted as the 'better sim'.

CFS2/1 designers with CFS3 on their PC should do a bit of CFS3 designing, because if you've got something for CFS1 or 2 you can use it in the brother combat sim (I even used a CFS2 Swordfish in FS2002 Pro, hehehe Cheesy), but with CFS3 you can only use your CFS3 addons in CFS3. Result? More use out of a CFS1 or 2 addon, less use out of a CFS3 addon.

DEFINATLY NOT saying all CFS2 designers should nuke CFS2 out of their hard drive and burn the CDs Cry and just start doing 40 GB of CFS3 addons, but just do a bit more CFS3 if they have it.

Regards,

Bombardier

Who cares if cfs4 is non-existent? Is it a crime to imagine/dream?

Anyway, what I want is being able to:
1. aim guns in bombers (like in cfs3)
2. ram other aircraft, not just die immediately.
3. dynamic explosions
4. dynamic building collapses (in cfs2 you put ten 30mm rounds into a water tower and it just dissapears in a puff of dust)
5. smarter AI (like bombers that actually drop bombs!)
6. being able to kill people in other aircraft without downing the plane (like in cfs3)
7. ANIMATED people on the ground (so you can strafe the hell out of people)
8. voice recognition for radio coms (o.k, maybe I'm starting to dream now Grin)
9. more radio commands (like being able to scream at people when they get in your way)
10. seeing people bounce when they bail out and their 'chutes dont open  Grin Grin Grin

My main dislike of CFS3 is that stoopid camera angle - external views of planes looking like they were taken with a 17mm semi-fish eye lens attached to a pole sticking out of a wingtip.

What I don't understand is this. Why can't Microsoft or some third party developer make FS9 with guns?

NAH,  its just that CFS4 was to be based on CFS3's engine & we have three SPADS (Korea & Viet Nam) already done...so Falcon500's CFS4 wish list Skyraider would have come true on the day of release even though it was not in the box. Wink

BTW contrary to urban legend CFS2 & CFS are still on my game machine.  I really miss the ability to use the mouse for engine control, fuel tank selection & the navigation capabilities.

Many of our CFS2 planes like the B-17 & B-29 had fully controllable (speed/heading/altitude) autopilots along with RDF's built in.

IMHO these are the only three areas where CFS2 does a better job & it was expected we would get them back in CFS4 or CFS5.

As for plugging AH & GC guilty as charged.  Its true I never miss a chance, but y'all should remember we still have well over 100 custom built CFS2 aircraft including the B-17 & B-29 still available & many new people do not know that.

Also in addition to aircraft Mathias (Ground Crew) has a whole Navy available for CFS2 including the I-400 submarine aircraft carrier made famous in Clive Cusslers' new book.

...

Incase anyone is unaware the I-400 class IJN subs were on a scale with modern nuke boats.  They carried three Aichi M6A1 float planes (look a lot a Tony with floats) is a sealed hanger.  The planes were launched by a catapult & recovered with a derrick & hook like the scout planes off a cruiser or battleship.

Actually, Bear had it right all along. There won't be a CFS4, but at one time there was going to be. Microsoft had actually submitted requests for developers and programmers to begin work on a "4", considering the beating that they took over CFS3. Suffice to say, no one could make up their minds, as to the development of a whole new sim, (i.e. CFS4/Korea or CFS4/Vietnam) or to patch an existing sim like CFS2 and call it something else. ???

Funny, CFS2 has been around for a good bit and it is still going strong. No other sim offers such versatility, realism, and support from the flight sim community and Microsoft knows that. I personally like the ida of a Korea Campaign, where the jet age was still in its infancy and a seasoned pilot was the reason that a plane had the reputation for being a good machine. Wink

~as ever,
the Blackbird

Just a clarification: CFS4 was well into the alpha stage of development & was close to going to the early testers when the plug got pulled.

It was neither Korea nor Vietnam & had no carriers.

You would just cry if you saw how much was done before the plug got yanked. Cry

I had an idea Shocked. CFS4 wouldn't be hard to make if you could make your own replacement aircraft folder etc. from add-on designer's planes etc. WITH their permission. Like a complete CFS2 except with an entirely new GSL file with objects in a new theatre. But I don't know which battle etc. to set it in. New poll.... Roll Eyes Cheesy
